Whilst the characters of a lot of the old school managers is likely the type we all want - most of them are semi-retired / out of the loop / aging pensioners who I really don't want to have come here, try, and have stroke / heart attack etc due to realising how much crap is here to sift out
This is from an up and coming manager. Maybe he's quoting it from elsewhere, I have no idea. I found it interesting. In my experience, there are four types of players in every dressing room. The first is the survivor – they are just happy when the session is finished and the day is over. The second character is what I call the entertainer – they are happy with their salary, happy with the followers they have, and only need this kind of external motivation to be happy. The third one is the winner. The winner likes to improve on a daily basis – they want to win every session, every game, and be better every day. The fourth one is the leader. The leader is the same type as the winner, but the leader has the skill to influence others, turning survivors and entertainers into winners. How does captain jack relate to this?
It's baffling that after many years of being in and out the team, years of being inconsistent and shipped off to other teams that Jack Stephens found himself with a new 3 year deal and the Captaincy. Only at Southampton do you get rewarded for sticking around after being a part of TWO 9-0 losses.
**** it. Let’s make Oriol manager, captain, CM & CF. I’m sure he could do half decent job in all those positions.
Yeah I still can’t get my head around that. Absolutely ****ing nuts imo & then not to play him …. somethings not right.
Every new manager comes in and thinks Stephens is great. Recently they've even taken to making him captain. Then after a while they all drop him.
I really hope the next manager comes in avoids the "I'd like to make my own assessment" bollocks. What I really want to hear is "yeah I've seen the last few seasons and know what the issue are". That would be music to my ears
Can see it now... Romeu signs, Ralph gets a 2nd stint, we sign JWP on loan & a beastly CF, grab a bunch of wins on the bounce, see JWP fire in free kick after free kick, the feel good factor floods on back & we do what Reading did to us, to Cov … !!
Get him in asap! With Beatts as assistant! Need some identity back, need people in and around the club who cares about this great club....not gonna happen, but would be great!!
Funnily enough that same thought went through my mind today regarding managers who really did make a pretty and lasting difference to players attitudes and of course results.
Whispers on Vieira. Just left Genoa, appointed there by Spors with Tonda as his assistant. Did a decent job at Palace, but not a great record. But good luck trying to give him and Oriol any **** about feeling sick etc.
Please please please not Russel Martin. I didn’t think SR could be that stupid, but then nothing could surprise me.
