    Greetings all

I think we need clarification on the question of political posting on Not606 Charlton.
I'm not willing to spend another weekend bogged down with divisive political wranglings.
So however this poll turns out I won't be posting any political opinions in future.
it was pointed out that doing so conflicts with my moderator status, and upon reflection I agree with that.
But other members may still wish to debate these subjects.

Years ago we used to have an unlimited number of threads on non-football political subjects.
That is not going to happen again. It was far too divisive and it clogged up the threads list page.

So we're left with the three choices in the poll.
The poll will remain open for three days.

    Just for clarity;
Political includes any subject which divides members along political lines.
Including crime, immigration, social problems etc.
Anything that different members will have contrasting views on how to fix.
As well as Party politics of course.
The choice is to have one place for all these subjects, or not to debate them at all here.

Off-topic posting of a non-footballing nature is not covered by the term Political.
That would obviously include many threads already in place.
RIP, birthdays, travels, stats, recreation, etc. As well as any future threads of that nature.
They are not affected in any way by this poll.

The way the Bad News thread is moderated will depend on the outcome of the poll.

I enjoy political debates. I’m against censorship in any way.
You never know that you may save a life by open debate.

I've met a few posters, including Royston a few times. Once he was kind enough to take me on a tour of the Palace of Westminster. I even used to sit next to one in the NWQ. Not once has any one of them wanted to start talking politics. What do we make of that?

A very wise assembly worker colleague from many years ago said "never discuss politics or religion". This was a rule observed by all the workers at the small manufacturing firm I used to help to run. They were from may different backgrounds and three different religions, but they always got along well and helped each other out when faced with a tricky job.

Over the years I've forgotten that wisdom.
Talking about things that divide us is a poor substitute for chatting about the things that unite us. I have done far too much of the former.
Whatever the poll decides, personally I'll be keeping clear of political matters in future. Life's too short for the accompanying stress.

Update on recent Spoons trips -

A round of five drinks for under £10

This is truly ridiculous in London .

Five pints of Bud Light at £1.99 a pint.

I’ve seen half a dozen Charlton fans at various away grounds so p issed they could barely stand, and @ElfsborgAddick was every one of them.

Funniest time was seeing his horrible little drunken face in Doncaster Town Centre, with his dubious (cough) Swedish mates in fancy dress.

They looked like Village People on day release.

A good beer in Sheffield on the Friday.

A good pre-match booze in Doncaster interrupted by you smoking a fat one and desperate to know if I had passed a bookies, later to be told you needed to pick up some winnings for you to buy some food.

After match drinks in Doncaster before a few more in Sheffield.

I'll not go into the Sheffield spoons(1 of 5 anyway) whilst waiting for breakfast the next day.

However, the mother of all drinks was the last away of the season at Chesterfield in 2017.

Shouldn't their be an option to 'not restrict' where comments can be made ?

Plus alot of topics get thrown under 'political' meaning no one will chat randomnly in random threads. Boa constricter like.

There was a time when several threads were dedicated to non-football political subjects.
Some members - Royston included - felt that too many off-topic threads like that were diluting the nature of this forum as primarily a place for fans to discuss Charlton Athletic and football in general. As far as I'm aware he still holds that view.

Around 16 months ago matters came to a head and several members left the forum in one day, over an emotive row on a thread about migrants.
We have had other problems since then.
In March this year I decided on a compromise. Political subjects would have one thread devoted to them.
The rest of the forum was for discussion of any nature - Charlton, football or life in general - except for politics.
That's the way things have been since then.

Anyone is welcome to start a poll on this.
If a majority of members want unlimited political threads on this forum I would accept that, and step down as moderator.
Somebody else can look after that kind of Not606 Charlton, because I would not be willing to.
Also, if I step down for a second time, this time it will be the last time. I'll never take the job on again.

    Ok sounds well established then.

So the bad news thread had some misplaced comments by me the other day then, after someone else had mentioned the incident (Huntingdon) though, apologies.
