I couldn't go yesterday but just watched the extended highlights. Positives: there were signs of good moments from a number of players and we troubled their goalkeeper, who played well. Negatives: unnecessary free kicks given away when we could have either pushed them out wide or allowed play to unfold a bit. Going by the highlights, Nardi made a few good saves but got the two free kicks wrong. The first, he got his footwork wrong and out of sync with Nunez striking the ball. With the second, the shot was actually off target but he should have been able to get at least somewhere near that side of the goal. Our head coach seems to have a bad habit of saving his best players for some future moment. I think he needs to just play his best 11 if they're available and get the job done in games in the first half, then can replace tiring players in the 2nd half. But let's be realistic about where we are. The last few seasons we've been stuck in a cycle of being in a relegation scrap and managing to get out of it, sometimes very narrowly. On current trajectory, we look like we'll be mid-table. Before this season, some of you would have snatched at that. Hopefully this can be slow progress. With that said, this is his first coaching job in England and still with a very new team. If improvements can be made, we can still lots of good moments to come this season and maybe a strong finish. There's no reason to think we can't improve from what has already been an ok season, considering.
I'm not really sure what's happened to Nardi. For the first half of last season I had great confidence in him and considered him one of our best players. His form dropped off towards the end of last season and he seems to have totally lost confidence this season. He's now a liability.
I thought the first free kick was well taken, but a silly foul to give away in a dangerous place. The second was odd, because Ipswich didn't line up like it would be direct, so our taller players were marking in the box and the wall comprised the three shortest players on the pitch. So he hit it over the wall... Ipswich were efficient and ruthless. Lots of use of borderline physicality that the ref didn't seem to mind and some of our players struggled with. On my train back to Dorset, I ended up chatting in the corridor to some pleasant-but-drunk Southampton fans going home after their own game. They're expecting us to thump them. I wish I was...

We weren't good for an hour, we weren't good at all. Poor selections by the manager, poor performances by the players.
Very good video. Thanks for posting 999's. It agree with everything he said. The Manager is getting his team selections wrong every single week.
