Aribo as captain? I've seen some crazy ideas but my god, that's got to be up there. The bloke wants out, and he'll be gone in 6 months.
This is gold! I'm reading Sitton's wiki now. The guy he had summarily sacked (or you'll be following Terry down the road) had been Sitton's teammate when he played for Orient! He didn't manage again, but we could send the boys round
I really like Aribo. Gets too much flak and is better than most Saints fans think. He has been in the cold but if you bin the players suggested, he is one of the few mature players there. If Armstrong and Stephens are released, who else is there of that age ? I agree about getting rid of some but let Aribo demonstrate what he is all about. It might not work but he is too good to leave out of a very poor squad. Not surprised he wanted away as he has not been as regular in the team as he should be. There is more about him than Downes at the moment.
I'm in Kingsland block 30 and the crowd around were pretty focal (for them) after the 1st goal. Those that were still there near the end (a few left at half time) were muttering that the next goal was coming about 30 seconds before it did. It was a mass exodus from about 85 minutes onwards though. I also don't get the Aribo stuff - he's not that good a player, hasn't been on the pitch for months and is wanted out - not the material for a reliable team player much less captain.
I actually think Aribo wouls step up to the plate. Cannot understand the negativity towards him but , again , there are those who thought Redmond was useless too !
I just don't think he will have any form of positive impact at the moment. He isn't a high quality player that can turn a game on his own, he's not been an integral part of the squad this season on and off the pitch and historically he's not been a player seen as a "leader" (he's never shown to inspire those around him to do better and / or organising those around him to do better). Could he do a job for the team at the moment - probably. Is he going to make a stark difference to the overall narrative - no.
My thinking too, Aribo was brought into the fold more by Martin during the winning streak - he did alright racking up the minutes as a utility player, as he did at Rangers - albeit where he was a more prominent and impactful one. We're stocked for wide men, so are the emerging Aribo fans thinking box-to-box... wing-back, false 9. A redemption arc or desperation bias? If we just play him in the RIGHT position, he'll unlock everything, when he himself is another puzzle to solve!
I said to the matey next to me that I'd almost be annoyed if we equalised as we didn't deserve it and then we both agreed that it didn't matter as it's more likely they scored again. 2 mins later...
Yeah probably right. I'm not so sure about THB. I still think his heart is in the right place. I just think he (and the other young CBs), need some older wiser heads around them. Bednarek was that guy, Stephens isn't. Wood's behaviour yesterday should have the manager and captain f*cking livid with him in the dressing room. My bet is though that WS and Adarma/Stephens will barely even care.
I have a horrid fear of Downes, THB, Manning et al pushing for Martin to be reinstated, which would just reinforce **** behaviour and make me very, very unlikely to spend any money anywhere near Saints for the foreseeable.
We are lacking experience and voices and players that give a ****, so badly. I’d go out today and give contracts till the end of the season to Romeu, Antonio and Redmond. Would definitely shake up the dressing room and bring some much needed voices etc
I’d be going all out for Ward-Prowse. No one on here wanted him back a few weeks ago, lol. But he’d sort out the players’ attitudes straight away imo. Plus he’s a f*cking gulf in quality above any of our current players.
Wages is the issue here, no way we can pay what he is on……..unless West Ham pay a percentage of course. But yeah I would have him back.
