Can't see Still or Manning seeing the week out.

Norwich are a patient club, but seven home defeats on the spin, six in the league? They are better than that. And Southampton? Eh? Two shots on target today( I watched the second half and they have just stopped playing) . They have some decent players, it should be a lot better.

They all need time, but the starts for those two are so appallingly bad, neither could complain if they were sacked tonight.

I find it interesting that we have Will Still fumbling the game, against Paul Heckingbottom. Coaches like Heckingbottom get looked down upon by many. Yet he often seems to overperform. Media inflated coaches seem to get better gigs. The lad failing at Leicester is another example. Maybe Southampton or Leicester could do much worse than trusting a solid pair of hands like Heckingbottom to take them on. Then we have Robins showing once again what a really good coach looks like.

There is a lot to be said, for not getting carried away with media hype. Look under the bonnet at what coaches are really able to do with certain types of players.

To be fair he's been given plenty of managerial opportunities at Leeds, Hibs, Sheff Utd, etc.

People like him, Robins, Potter, Lampard, etc, seem to have a level they can't get above despite being given the chance.

I agree mate, your feelings are your business and don't have to be logical ...

... sometimes it's quite sensible to judge a book by it's cover in my opinion.

    Agree there.

I rarely know the names of coaches and managers who do their work abroad, apart from the obvious names. Many who get jobs here are good mind, but often I imagine, less showy names here often miss getting the chance.

What is ideal for a club is that they look for and find a coach, maybe fifty or so, with a long time working with young players so he can be a sort of teacher. Maybe with some experience as a manager in a tough league too. Better still if he has a hinterland of relevant further education. Hopefully he'd have an obsessive interest in the game which would help him plan his team's tactics before and throughout a match. Maybe, in the best of cases, he'd have a calm nature and a likeable personality.

But, where the feck do you find a bloke like that?:emoticon-0103-cool:

By coincidence Heckingbottom also has his degree and masters degree in sports science. He did those before he went to Barnsley.

It would be interesting to know how many coaches are kicking around with degrees.

I think he has performed above expectations in most jobs. I am not saying he should be a premier league manager, but I do wonder if folk like him are better suited to jobs like Southampton or Leicester rather than the coaches those club have gone for.

Took Barnsley to a higher level and was offered the Leeds gig. Not really sure he was ready for that in his secons gig, but I suspect Leeds got a green light on Bielsa and had to go for it. Sheff Utd was a success for him and now at Preston he has them punching above their weight. Maybe he is only a solid championship gaffer, but I struggle to see what others appear to have he doesnt.

Robins maybe his own worst enemy by staying at Coventry so long. But I dont see anybody in the championship as good as him tbh. McKenna potentially, Edwards possibly. Put it this way, I would bet Robins would have Leicester top 2 if he was there, compared to the lad currently there.

All just idle debate on my part. Owners can do as they please and no doubt they have their own rationale.

There would be some wonderful irony if Robins with Stoke pipped Lampard and Coventry to automatic promotion
