We haven't won a game since August and it's been 6 weeks since we scored 2 goals in a game. 2 points from the last 24 available.
Hull did change their system but I don’t think that was the issue today. We were still creating chances, but were forced to chase the game by the early second half goal and Hull just picked apart our left handside which is utterly perplexing given the experiences there with Darling, Schlupp and McLean. So many in this team look unfit
Look at the minute by minute timeline on WhoScored. Up to half time we rate above Hull throughout the 45+ minutes. It's red (i.e. home side) minute after minute. Then look at the second half: blue (away side) after blue apart from two isolated "red" minutes. We could have gone in at half time 2 or even 3 goals up and still lost the game given how much better Hull were than us in the second half.
Just back to the car after enduring another painful afternoon at CR. At half time, had some optimism after a reasonably positive first half but said to my daughter 'this has smash and grab' written all over it. Cannot believe what I witnessed second half - yet another shocker. I want to say something positive but I'm struggling. Sadly I won't be making the journey here next Saturday - going to spend the day with my family which brings me a whole lot more joy than today has.
Goals change games Robbie you know this. If we go in 2 or 3 up at half time it’s a completely different game state. As it was we concede early and then lose any sort of composure we had and get even edgier and less confident
We must have the highest number of goals conceded between 40 to 55 minutes. It seems to happen every game conceding just before half time & after the interval then collapsing
Enjoy your evening....Put in a request for 'Poles Apart,' and 'Coming Back to Life' in honour of the mighty HCAFC.
As I said, I don't think going in ahead at half-time would have made any difference. Hull were far superior for all our huffing and puffing in the second half. As B&S say in their post above, "Poles apart". Like every other side that's beaten us, Hull play like a team that's actually coached; we don't look like a team at all.
Of course it does, players play completely different if they have the confidence of a 2 goal lead instead of a goal behind. We look like a team that is extremely low on confidence, playing in front of a crowd that jumps on them at the first sign of adversity
So you think that, had we scored one goal, we would have been miraculously transformed into the team we all wish we were, but manifestly are not? Goals change games in all sorts of ways, often including causing the team who conceded the goal to up their game. Which IMO is precisely what would have happened in this case, i.e. that Hull, their "game changed" by going one down, would have made the same tactical adjustments as they did at HT, drawn level, and then taken the lead and the points. If people think that it will all change if only we can get a win, or even a draw, I'm afraid they are living in cloudcuckooland.
Sargent reports that the players are behind the manager. Little evidence of this on the field of play Josh. How many times has this scenario played out at CR in the past decade?
TNC reporting that Ben Kensell would be open to returning to the club as CEO. Kensell attended today’s game in the directors box as a guest of Delia. TNC also say that Kensell would look to install Kieran Scott as new Sporting Director.
