Due to a very late rise today I only tuned in to Robins TV at half-time and saw the awful score right in front of me and decided I would watch the second half until I saw yet another goal hit the back of our net with no challenge at all from our defence. I had a horrible sense of doom for this match and my concerns were realized by the apathetic attempts to save our souls with shocking defending that allowed Stoke a free route to our goal and we seemed to be making shocking decisions and we were running around like a bunch of headless chickens which brought back memories of games past. To be perfectly blunt we have all seen this scenario play out way too often in the ppast and I can think of one season where we essentially gave up our goal difference advantage in just 3 matches and here we go again. Bristol City seem incapable of putting together a consistent squad that can challenge each season but I think we have witnessed how easily we fall off our perch and end up looking like the bottom of a parrot's cage and you can only guess what that means.
Tuesday will be interesting Blackburn have won their last two and a good away win today at the foxes.
It’s the championship all over Anyone is capable of beating anyone else That’s why it’s so unpredictable and why we love it Just watched the highlights Defensively, including Vitek, we were appalling
That’s up to Struber, but Vitek and the whole of the defence need a post mortem into the goals we conceded and our defending as a unit With our injuries, I know that our options are limited
Now we have Atkinson with a hamstring problem.. Gerhard Struber shares Rob Atkinson update as Bristol City boss 'sad' for fans after Stoke loss Bristol City defender Rob Atkinson was forced off with an injury early in the second half of the Robins' defeat to Stoke City https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport.../gerhard-struber-shares-rob-atkinson-10615346
I wouldn’t do that just yet. Every player has a ‘stinker’ once in a while. Vitek will be acutely aware of his failings yesterday but to drop him could shatter his confidence. I’d keep faith with him for now. Of course, if there’s a repeat then we’d have to look at playing Max, but don’t forget that Max has been out injured all season and to throw him into a top-end championship battle would be a big ask.
And despite yesterday on the evidence so far this season Vitek is an upgrade on Max so should keep his place
Replace the team, or not. In and out of possession they were second back to front. If a team turns over the ball frequently and Bristol City do the team will have to defend efficiently. The team collectively committed consistent errors in and out of possession.
We don’t have the ability to change most positions, we just don’t have competition, we do with the keeper though, is there not an argument to letting Max have a game?
I’m afraid the limited squad and size of the injured list finally caught up with us but fair play to Stoke, attacked us directly with pace!
O'leary? No. Vitek is levels above. City's downfall yesterday was errors across the team and a collective error of not falling back into a compact shape when possession is turned over. Stoke exposed a Bristol City exposing themselves e.g Borges overloaded and left 1v1/1v2 because the team was not getting back into shape. This is something the team has done very well till Stoke.
Of course he is, let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water here. Yes, he made a howler, and the whole team didn’t click, but it’s one game, luckily we have another 2 games before the break to get this one out of our system - hopefully….
