Still is definitely telling porkies about 4-2-3-1 being his favourite formation. He could've easily gone Macca Mads, Edwards, Wood, Manning Downes, Jander Fellows, Azaz, Leo Adarma
Would you rather Downs? There's not much choice there with Stewart & Archer injured. The failure is with SR, again, for not signing a proper striker.
I would. Armstrong through the middle just doesn’t work and takes away the threat he offers playing from the right. That is worth more than playing Downs and him continuing to struggle, and you never know he might start finding some form with more game time. Especially at home where he should see a fair amount of the ball. I do agree that it could be Azaz up front and Armstrong wide so we’ll see how we set up
Thing about Arma being up top is that not only do we look worse when he plays there but it reduces our biggest goal threat in a team already struggling for goals.
If it had to be 5 at the back then I'd prefer either Downs or Oyekunle. We know Armstrong can't do it, those 2 we haven't seen much of. Armstrong as a lone striker doesn't work in this system as he can't hold it up and gets isolated. Whereas if we played 4231 and had Scienza and Azaz close to him to slip balls in behind then I think it could work. But Still keeps repeating mistakes of old and wondering why he is getting the same outcome
Yep you chose your formation according to your attacking players. don't play 5 at the back with Adarma or Archer as a lone striker. Still has shown very little tactical nous this season.
So deflating as a fan to see the back 5 again. Every successful 3/5 at the back team I’ve ever seen has one or two fantastic wing backs and a strong striker. We haven’t got either.
