    Competition- Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - The Valley
    Date - 1 November 2025
    Kick off - 3pm

Following their battling Carabao Cup defeat at the hands of Man City, next up for Alan Sheehan’s Swansea squad is a tricky looking away match at promoted Charlton.

On Wednesday evening, in front of a capacity crowd, Omar Marmoush and Rayan Cherki scored late goals as Manchester City came from behind to win at the Swansea.com Stadium and book a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Goncalo Franco's memorable strike had given the Swans an early lead but Jeremy Doku's deflected effort brought Pep Guardiola's team level before the break.

Manchester City, eight-time winners of this competition, dominated after the break and eventually broke the Swans’ resistance when Marmoush lashed home after Cherki's through-ball 13 minutes from time.

France international Cherki, who like Marmoush was back afer injury, sealed victory in added time as his low shot rolled into the bottom corner for his first goal since August.

Last Saturday, Charlton grabbed a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time to deny Hull a fourth successive Championship victory.

Substitute Luke Berry pounced from close range in the 91st minute, extending the London club's unbeaten run to three games.

Hull’s Leeds United loanee Joe Gelhardt had given the home side the lead in the opening minute of the second half, scoring for the third successive game.

The Swans first played Charlton in 1922, and in the 44 matches played to date, the Swans have won 17, the Addicks 16 with 11 draws.

The sides last met at The Valley in October 2019 when the Swans ran out 2-1 victors, with Andre Ayew’s winning goal sending the Swans to the top of the table:

Turning to tomorrow, Swans’ head coach Sheehan will go up against Nathan Jones having spent many years on the same side as the Welshman.

Former left-back Sheehan was enduring a difficult spell at Bradford City when he joined Jones' Luton Town on loan in January 2016.

Sheehan ended up as club captain at Luton, where he helped Jones' team win promotion from League Two in 2018 and then from League One 12 months later.

The Irishman left Kenilworth Road in 2020 to continue his playing career, but then returned to join Jones' Luton coaching staff in 2022 before following him to Southampton later that year.

After being dismissed by Saints in February 2023, Jones and Sheehan went their separate ways, with the latter joining the Swans’ coaching staff that summer.

So neither will want to lose to the other …

As for the outcome. I’m going for a 1-1 <cheers>

I'm suspending my current pessimistic state as I have a feeling we'll play well and win this one 0 - 1.

    Atletico Charlton 2-0 Swansea City.

    or 1-1

I think there’ll be 2 goals in the game - not sure which way.

Alan Sheehan: “Charlton are a team that's built up a lot of momentum in the last year or so and a very difficult team to play against from what I have seen.

"They beat Ipswich 3-0 away the other day and they are in the play-off places at the moment, so we understand it's going to be a very difficult game."

Nathan Jones: "Swansea have been around a long time at this level and higher, so they’re going to be tough opposition.

"Alan was an excellent captain for me, he was a coach for me and he was set play coach for me, so he’s someone I know very, very well. It’s a tough league to have your first job in management and I think he’s done excellently."

David Webb will be the man in the middle to this afternoon.

It’s the third time the Lancashire-based official has taken charge of a Swans match this season; Webb previously overseeing Swansea City's 2-2 draw against Hull City and the defeat to Leicester City.

Webb is vastly experienced having been added to the National List of Referees in 2008. He took charge of his first Swans match in 2011 and has also refereed at Premier League level.

This will be the 24th time he has taken charge of a Swans game in the Championship.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by Callum Gough and Lee Venamore. George Laflin will be the fourth official.

Leicester lose their third consecutive game at home, 0 - 2 to Blackburn. We made them look like easy league winners.
