The truth about why Farage wants to leave the ECHR. Don’t fall for the **** about migrants. Reform represent big business and free enterprise. Uncontrolled capitalism. There ‘s truth in Gordon Armstrong’s post above. This what the ECHR protects us from;

• Prohibition of forced labor:
  Article 4 of the ECHR prohibits slavery and forced or compulsory labor.
• Freedom of assembly and association:
  Article 11 protects the right to form and join trade unions and to strike, ensuring workers can organize collectively.
• Protection against discrimination:
  Article 14 prohibits discrimination in relation to the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Convention. ECHR case law has also protected individuals from dismissal based on their political beliefs.
• Right to a fair trial:
  Article 6 guarantees the right to a fair trial, which can be relevant in cases of unfair dismissal or disputes with an employer.
• Protection of private life:
  Article 8 protects the right to respect for private and family life. This can be applied to workplace issues, such as excessive surveillance by an employer.
• Right to a fair hearing:
  Article 6 has also been used by businesses to ensure fair processes when dealing with regulatory bodies.
  
  Add the removal of this to their policy of fire and rehire. Those of us who need a stable job to pay the mortgage need to get people around us to wise up.

I might have the wrong end of the stick here. But I will openly say I want to keep out culture, or in reality get what I think it once was. And I dont think it has anything to do with racism personally.

I want a country where folk help each other out. Where if your neighbour needs a favour you do it without being asked. Where kids play safely outdoors because parents can be bothered to keep an eye out. Where family meals were important. Where the pub was the heartbeat of a community.

I want a country the world admires. Admires because we stand up for what is right. Because we are there when those that cant defend themselves need help. Because we are great at building things and everyone works hard and takes pride in a days work.

I want a culture where everyone plays their part. I want mutual respect from everyone to everyone.

In other words I want to go back in time. It is hard to take pride in much anymore. I have tried bloody hard, as a volunteer, to make a difference in my little community. Very few ever thanked those like me, but would whinge if something wasnt perfect. A lot of people now are selfish, in my opinion, and more than a bit lazy. If individuals took just a bit more personal accountability, and tried a bit harder to be good neighbours, the country would take a big leap forward.

 

I couldnt agree more mate, we've lost much more than we’ve gained.

In my opinion it all finally crumbled with Thatcher who taught people to be grasping and that attacking your own people ‘the enemy’, was acceptable.

She may have been right about the pits and our industry but it was the way she set parts of the country, and levels of ‘class’, against each other that has lead us to where we are.

There's very little compassion left and it’s ’every man for himself’ these days …

… I still try to be charitable, kind and a good Christian but it’s hard now.

I’m glad I lived in a pit village where the degrees of ‘having nowt’ were so close you could be rich if your horse came in. People, nowadays, are quite arrogant and spiteful with very little justification.

 

Whatever people think about the introduction of a Digital ID, the fact that we currently abide by ECHR means it will need to confirm to Article 8 and follow strict safeguards etc.

Reform wants to scrap it, which could lead to a whole new level of uncontrolled surveillance. Not to mention it would be easier to give all of our personal information to his American mates. Sure the "plan" would be to replace it with our own version...and we all saw how well that went with Brexit.

100%. Thatcher was probably right about some stuff, but she had a meanness of approach.

Will we ever ger back what was once so bloody good? I cant see it personally. Too many people want it easy and things handed to them. I wouldnt swap my upbringing, and the values I was given, for anything the modern world has to offer. All I can really do now is keep helping folk who I think deserve and need it, and set an example that I hope land well with some.

 

Sadly it’s all gone mate and will never return.

You only have to look at these forums to see how spiteful and aggressive people have become …

… yet they can’t handle it if flak is returned.

If you read the wartime books of Spike Milligan you can see how people of all cultures, classes and walks of life just got on with things. Geordies, Jocks, Cockneys, dockers, toffs, miners and everyone in between just cracked on and got through it.

I am a socialist and was a Labour voter at the last election, always voted Labour. Keir Starmer is going the right way to hand the golden key to all our personal info over to Farage at the next election. Bad enough any government having the potential overreach digital id allows, but just imagine Farage having it. Thanks Keir

 

Interesting comment though because I’d say faith communities do more of this from what i see but I’ve read on here some are evil. I agree about helping people. As well as hands on it’s why I think paying fair tax should be seen as patriotic. Without it we have no services. I’ve not hidden that I’m not a fan of Starmer snd McSweeneys Labour, however I love some of their policies - health and this one https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/pride-in-place are my stand outs I think this reflects what you’re saying and I’m told more investment goes into this next year.

 

I am not a person of any faith. I grew up in a church going family, but as I got older I grew distant from it. Tried going back when I had my first son, I wanted to feel connected in some way, but it wasnt for me. Nothing against communities of faith at all, I am jealous of folk of faith, but I cant get on with it as I get older. My weakness, nothing else.

But I dont think faith communities do more than non faith ones to help others. Not in my experience anyway. A few years back vandals burnt down our tiny little no relevance cricket clubhouse down. No insurance! Me and a dozen mates rebuilt it in a few weeks. Just what we wanted to do. No pay, no cudos, no religion, just did it for everyone who loved cricket (i wasnt one). Oh aye, and we did build the best bar in the area, designed by me mainly

 

Danny Kruger now having a go at the threat of an LGBT supporting government. So that’s gay people, black and brown people, mentally ill people all in a week from the same party to add to the general xenophobia. Britain is better than this surely.
