Good Morning. It's Wednesday 29th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Could Leeds cash-in on Bornauw in January Sebastiaan Bornauw’s move to Leeds United was supposed to mark a fresh start after four injury-ridden seasons at Wolfsburg, where he managed 96 appearances but never quite regained his early-career momentum. Signed for €6 million at the start of the summer transfer window, the 26-year-old Belgian defender arrived at Elland Road hoping to rebuild his reputation in England. Yet a few months into the campaign, his situation already looks bleak. Bornauw has featured in only one official match, the League Cup tie against second-tier Sheffield Wednesday; and is still waiting for his Premier League debut. Reduced to the role of fourth-choice centre-back, Bornauw often finds himself on the bench or, worse, watching from the stands. In nine league matches so far, he has been left out of the squad on four occasions. Leeds manager Daniel Farke has explained that he cannot afford to have two central defenders among his substitutes, a decision that has further limited Bornauw’s opportunities. Unsurprisingly, rumours of frustration and disappointment have begun to circulate around the Belgian international, whose four caps for his country attest to the potential that once made him a prized young talent. With January approaching, speculation is growing that Bornauw could seek an early exit if Leeds are willing to recoup the £5.1 million they invested in him. The club may view such a move as sensible business, particularly given the versatility of Justin and Ampadu should Leeds have a defensive injury crisis. For Bornauw, however, the need for regular football may soon outweigh the patience required to win over his new manager. please log in to view this image Anderlecht prepare offer for Meslier Anderlecht are reportedly preparing a £750,000 bid for Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier as they seek to strengthen their squad ahead of the January transfer window. The Belgian giants are under growing pressure after a disappointing run of form, winning only two of their last ten matches and conceding ten goals during that spell. With only three clean sheets in the same period, questions have been raised over their defensive consistency, prompting the club to explore options between the posts. According to Belgian outlet Voetbal Nieuws, Meslier has recently “appeared on the scene” at Anderlecht, and a move could take shape once the window opens. The report suggests that the French shot-stopper’s asking price would be low, with Leeds unlikely to stand in his way given he is now third choice behind Lucas Perri and Karl Darlow. His contract situation adds urgency for Leeds, who would prefer to cash in rather than risk losing him for free at the end of the season. please log in to view this image
One of those things for Bornauw. Last year we had centre back injuries so we strengthen that area. This year so far we have none. If we sold him we’d get an injury within a week. I guess in going for Justin as back up full back the ‘bonus’ is he can fill in as centre back (no idea how well but he has done it) - so Bornauw could be let go but we do need the cover.
Definitely keep Bornauw. No doubt we’ll be fielding a weakened team for the cup and he’ll play an important role in our FA cup winning side.
Ive never heard of Bornauw till now. Hell go on loan for next two seasons with no transfer fee. Meslier 750k. Wasn't he supposed to bring in 10m according to some. We really do piss some amounts of cash away in our transfer dealings. Is Risdale still involved
Mesliers asking price will be low... that's what happens when you concede goals that are comical at best ...our transfer business is quite woeful on the whole
Bornauw is 4th choice right now but let’s remember it won’t be long before we lose a CB through yellow cards. Rodon just broken a record for most consecutive starts which means he will be injured before long and Struijk if he gets the nod ahead of Bijol usually injured and out for a week or two. No we need the cover. Meslier sold in January is welcome and whatever we get for him will be all profit. Another silly decision not selling him when we were being offered a big fee but we knocked it back, why? So he goes on the cheap in January or walks away for free in June. Meslier hasnt played for Leeds since we had the offers yet we didn’t sell?
Mes can leave free next year. How many games will he play between now and then ? Any transfer fee is a no brainer. Morning all
Forgot we had Bornauw. Who? Was Perri a done deal when the offers fort Mes were there? If not, it was better to hang on to him until we have another keeper on the books.
All true Doc, providing he agreed to any move. "Mr Agent, get me a move, the nasty German says I am now 3rd choice"... "No, no, Ilan, you sit tight in the stands. Your contract is up this year and we can get a healthy signing on fee".... "But Mr Agent, how are we going to get a signing on fee if no-one sees me play?".... "You are a special case Ilan"
I would keep Bornauw But I would sell Meslier(should have been sold when we could get something for him), Struijk and Gnonto. All three are easily replaced and would do wonders for our PSR
Possibly there was a presumption that Struijk would be sold, so would have been a cheap replacement to keep on bench
His sell on clause isn’t going to change so, if we’re are to sell him, we do it when the profit is at its highest.
We ran out of money though and lack in other areas. Sign him, don’t sign Bijol and use that £18m elsewhere Ampadu was good cover and could have been our emergency 4th choice CB
