Because she didn't want to leave her coffee cup in a bin with liquid still in it. Well done the three enforcement officers who probably looked not unlike SAS troops or security police, with their body cameras (so they could prove they didn't enjoy scaring her too much) and other intimidating looking kit. If the law was applied everywhere with as much strictness it wouldn't be such a problem. We might have clean, crime free vandalism free graffiti free streets like they do in a few other parts of the World. But the law is not applied like that. While this woman was being harassed a dozen phones were doubtless snatched, bicycles stolen and a few tons of rubbish fly-tipped around the city. All much more serious, and virtually all unpunished.
Odd how can coffee pollute the environment? what are drains for?? Do they council have a legal responsibility when they clean the streets with the cleaning agents or use ice gritting that gets into waterway and harms amphibians and fish? equally you are only charged with littering if you are firstly given an opportunity to pick it up and refuse she was not able to do this. the enforcement agents have no power of arrest and she should have walked on. They can’t even ask her name without a police officer present. Silly world we live in

In 2023/24, 60% of fly-tips involved household waste. Total incidents involving household waste were 688,000 in 2023/24, an increase of 5% from 654,000 incidents in 2022/23. The most common place for fly-tipping to occur was on highways (pavements and roads), which accounted for 37% of total incidents in 2023/24. In 2023/24, the number of highway incidents was 427,000, which was a decrease of 1% from 433,000 in 2022/23. The most common size category for fly-tipping incidents in 2023/24 was equivalent to a ‘small van load’ (31% of total incidents), followed by the equivalent of a ‘car boot or less’(28%). In 2023/24, 47,000 or around 4% of total incidents were of ‘tipper lorry load’ size or larger, which is an increase of 11% from 42,000 in 2022/23. For these large fly-tipping incidents, the cost of clearance to local authorities in England in 2023/24 was £13.1 million. Local authorities carried out 528,000 enforcement actions in 2023/24, which was a slight decrease from the 530,000 in 2022/23. The number of fixed penalty noticesissued was 63,000 in 2023/24, a decrease of 5% from 67,000 in 2022/23. This is the second most common action after investigations and accounted for 12% of all actions in 2023/24. The average court fine has increased from £526 in 2022/23 to £530 in 2023/24. The total number of court fines decreased by 8% from 1,491 in 2022/23 to 1,378 in 2023/24, with the combined value of these fines decreasing by 7% from £785,000 to £730,000.
Walking along a beautiful country lane in the Chelsfield Circular walk, I was confronted with a huge pile of builders waste. Ghastly. Mind you, the recycling centres don't all make it easy.
Absolutely horrific scenes in Uxbridge yesterday, an area I know well. It’s leafy suburbia. A 49 year man taking his dog for a walk was literally hacked to death at random by an illegal immigrant from Afghanistan. There are multiple videos of the brutal murder on social media. I genuinely feel the country reaching a tipping point due to these people. RIP

He needs putting down - I’ve seen the footage and it’s disgusting, the victim was out walking his dog ffs!
I imagine the footage is disgusting. I have no desire to watch it though. Any more than I would want to watch what happened to Fusilier Lee Rigby, or people being beheaded by ISIS. Real graphic violence on social media, real killings, are not only watched by people of our age. Children will be watching and sharing that footage as well. I'm not any less appalled by this latest attack because I don't wish to watch it. But young minds can be permanently damaged by seeing graphic, real acts of extreme violence. I'm not in any way offering an excuse for what this man did. But I wouldn't be surprised to learn he may have witnessed extreme acts of violence, possibly murders, as a boy in Afghanistan. He was only 17 when he arrived in the UK in the back of a lorry. The most horrific violence often sows seeds of more in the future, among those who witness it. Monsters are hardly ever born that way. Most of them are made.
I don’t think I'll watch it. But I imagine that the Taliban would kill him if we could send him back. I can't imagine what his family must be going through.
With matters the way they are I believe he will be deported soon after conviction, probably back to Afghanistan. I don't think many will care what happens to him after that. There are no winners in a tragedy like this. Also, we all of course are feeling for the families of the innocent man killed walking his dog, and the boy & other man seriously wounded. They too are just as much victims of this whole terrible event. There is no disputing that.
