Fawlty Towers actress Prunella Scales has died aged 93, her family have confirmed.
Scales was best known for playing hotel manager Sybil Fawlty, the long-suffering and domineering wife of Basil - played by John Cleese - in the classic British sitcom.
The actress died "peacefully at home in London yesterday", her sons Samuel and Joseph said.
They added that she was watching Fawlty Towers the day before she died. Cleese paid tribute, describing Scales as "a really wonderful comic actress". He said: "Scene after scene she was absolutely perfect."

A sad day, she was a great actress - Farewell Sybil you will always be remembered
    RIP <rose>

She was brilliant as Sybil in Fawlty Towers. The 2 main characters were obviously Basil and Manuel, but she very often stole the show.

    RIP

She did suffer from vascular dementia for the last 12 years but good on her for raising awareness. She and her husband (Timothy West) did a great series (Great Canal Journeys ) about their life together and their struggle with her illness - I'm sure Channel 4 will repeat it.

She was the star of the show for me. Absolutely brilliant actress. Her late husband was a brilliant actor in his own right. RIP Both.

    Sad news indeed.

Loved Fawlty Towers, and still watch it now. Always had a soft spot for Sybil, a brilliant actress perfectly cast for the role.

As Basil would say, R.I.P. my little piranha fish.

Hopefully they can show it without feeling the need to apologise for the language on behalf of unknown offended people.
