We had Ultras in the Allam era - it fizzled out to nothing, never took off and never looked like taking off, it was a total and utter disaster. All it did was split the noisy, and mostly anti-name change support into two halves and caused people to lose seats they'd had from the opening of the KC. The Allams couldn't believe their luck, the noisy CTID rabble split in half by two dozen so-called Ultras!
i thought attendances were on a par with last couple seasons to be fair , hovered fairly consistenlty around 20k , pushed up to 23/24k with cheap deals or a massive away following,
They are, but why do you think this season's attendances have seen a slight dip despite the home form being chalk and cheese with recent seasons?
Slight increase in cost. They've increase by 20% in two seasons, poor season last year and the generally cost of living now.
After 7 home games last season we had a total of 151,233 through the gate. That was an average of 21,604.7 After 7 homes game this season we've had a total of 143,579. An average of 20,511.2. Which is 1,093.5 less per game than last season. Difficult to put a finger on it, though the increases in the cost of living would suggest it is the reason.
I also think the timing of games is a factor. Leicester last Tuesday night only got 20,211. The last time we played them in March 2024 the attendance was 24,605. I know it was on a Saturday and we where going for the play offs. For a club like ours especially in the build up to Christmas and just after it. I think it really matters when the tickets are released. In a ideal world for the big games tickets would be released in the last week of the month around most people's payday.
Our attendances have dropped 6.45% im two sessons. I still think our attendances are great. But I all businesses would be concerned with 6.45% drop in customer retention.
The growth in 12:30 kick offs this season and last has had an effect on gates, that perhaps explains a big chunk of the ~1,000 fall in the average since 23/24.
Given prices have risen 20% in that time, a 6.45% drop in retention is less concerning as revenue will be up regardless. Realistically, we’ve had two poor seasons at home, the summer was an absolute clown show and on top of that prices went up, I don’t think it’s surprising that a few people have cancelled. What the team has done is give the club every chance of getting those fans back with the positive, entertaining performances.
Does the cost of living only affect Hull? Other clubs don’t seem to be affected though most of them have a lot higher prices than we do. They don’t return loads of tickets quoting cost or early kick offs for poor numbers.
Leicester has a rugby club which attracts as many as the two Hull clubs combined. Although has a larger population, just under 400,000. Coventry is larger than Hull, about 100,000 more. Bristol is not a similar size either, it has a population just under 500,000. Norwich has 100,000 less. All those clubs have higher ticket prices than us. Some over £200 more behind the goal for a season ticket. Similar sized cities are Sunderland, Southampton and Derby all of which get bigger crowds than we do. (i know Sunderland have gone up but they were getting 15,000 more than we could get in the MKM).
Price have gone up but are still amongst the lowest. Lad I know is a Norwich season ticket holder and it costs him £530 for safe standing behind the goal compared to our £300. And they have a waiting list for season tickets in any part of the ground. A Wednesday fan I was speaking to yesterday pays about £500 for their Kop End.
I agree, for the more casual of our fanbase it’ll take a bit of time for news to filter through that we are now a good watch. Besides, I think it’s only natural that home games at the start of a season have a lower take up. There is not a lot riding on our games yet - if we are still in the mix in the new year and playing fun stuff I think we can be concerned but right now sadly the club are getting what they slightly deserve after a poor last season.
I go and will continue to, and I don't much care who else does, seen 'em come and seen 'em go. Same as it ever was.
+1 for giving tickets to schools and local clubs. The front of the South and West Stands plus the North West corner always has plenty of seats that may as well be given away.
