Badreddin Abdallah Adam, a 28-year-old asylum seeker from Sudan who had arrived in the UK about six months earlier, attacked residents and staff at the hotel, which was being used to house asylum seekers during the COVID-19 pandemic. He stabbed six people, including a police officer, a 17-year-old boy from Sierra Leone, and several hotel staff members aged 18, 20, 38, and 53. The victims suffered serious injuries, with one in critical condition at the time. Adam was shot dead by police after being cornered on an upper floor.
