After a little research i've decided that sacking Still immediately and installing Carrick as manager is the most sensible option that the club has.
He has a 46% win ratio from approaching 150 games in the Championship and his preferred formation is 4-2-3-1 (which would suit the new players brought in)
He also has the gravitas to command respect and has play-off experience.
Plus he has worked with key players Archer and Azaz before.

How well Boro are doing under Edwards makes me think Carrick might have under achieved there tbh.

I'd rather we try and poach someone than go for somebody unemployed too, use that financial might while we have it.

I doubt he'd come but I'd definitely be asking the question to Mark Robins, I'm sure there's precedent for a manager of an unfancied side in the play offs leaving for a club with more resources lower down the league.

If he says no then try the same with Alex Neil who I think probably would come. Has a promotion on his record and done a brilliant job at Millwall.

Or they're having a board meeting today. We simply don't know.

We've already lost more matches and conceded more goals than Burnley did in the entirety of last season.

And yet they too had to overcome a horrid PL season in which their egotistical manager implemented a possession based system ill-suited to their needs. The difference is that they duly recruited an experienced Championship manager, who knew what it would take to get promoted (not to mention someone who has played at the top level).

I don’t disagree, but from the outside looking in we are a shambles.

That said I guess he could fancy his chances.

Part of me wants another relegation. L1 were some of the best times supporting Saints, but only if we continue to be backed.

It just feels to me like we need a huge reset, and relegation would do that.

I get the financial consequences could be dire and wonder if that would prompt SR to sell Saints.

I also don’t understand people who say they won’t sell us as it’s a multi club model. It is but they can remove us and carry on etc with their model.

Maybe. With previous sackings I just recall it happening pretty soon after the final game.

Now would be the perfect time for a new manager to start though. Both Preston and QPR have had a few bad results after strong starts and then Sheffield Wednesday at home is the easiest fixture of the season. It would give them a chance to get points on the board nice and early before a 2 week international break with only 5 or 6 missing.

The more I think about it the more Carrick makes sense.

Jones happened on the Sunday, day after the game, Ralph happened Monday IIRC, I think Martin happened the evening of the Spurs game but that had to happen.

It does seem to a trend that whenever an out of work manager has had enough of their break - whether that be weeks or months - they suddenly pop up on TV. Often MNF on Sky, but not always. And Carrick was on MOTD yesterday.

Unfortunately for us I think we watched Still on MNF and thought we’d have a piece of that.

I thought he sounded boring and uninspiring when he was on it.

Surely we must be making a move, we are pretty much in a relegation battle now.

I think we are lining up a plan B surely, even if we aren't pulling the plug now. To be honest, that plan B should be there even if we were doing well with Still.

We have a strong squad, but the shambles and league position doesn't make us as attractive to an in work manager IMO. This is why it does to Carrick. He could quite easily make us stable and even a top 6 push and his stock would go up. He doesn't really have much to lose.

I don’t understand what you are saying here. What do you mean by easiest fixture to start with - Preston?!

    Sheffield wednesday at home

I can see the way i put it wasn't that clear - I meant the start as in first 3 games rather than just the first game.

SR are usually about a month behind the fans turning (yesterday was the moment most will have), I reckon he will have until Sheffield Wednesday minimum.

Difference this time being that Spors is calling the shots rather than Ankersen. Just gotta hope that Spors is more ruthless. At the moment Still is making him look like a clown.

Of course Spors will probably just f*ck off to Juventus and wash his hands of it all.

I've edited that reply as I realised that my original message was written poorly.

What I was trying to convey was that our next 3 games would give a new manager a good chance to get points on the board early before a couple of weeks on the training ground during the international break.

Yeah i totally get it - i was just scratching around to check i hadn’t got my dates wrong. Literally the handling of yesterday’s game has made me 360 on Still and if we could get him, Carrick can’t come in soon enough!

    Now I’m doubting myself- is it a 360 or a 180?<laugh><laugh>
