The migrant jailed for 12 months for the Epping sexual assault has 'accidentally' been released from prison today, a police manhunt is underway...

Another one to file under 'You couldn't make it up'...

A big turnout in the Caerphilly by-election and a tactical vote by many to keep out the Reform candidate. Labour were never going to win, but Wales - and the UK as a whole - will never let the fascists win.

The party are fascist, those that vote for them are either fascists themselves, or mostly just plain fools.

Populist would be a fairer term. If you look up the definition of fascism they do tick some boxes but they aren’t that extreme or at least haven’t done anything yet to suggest they would be.

Brilliant, that will get some likes from the usual suspects.

One or two of my drinking mates are racist ****s. I fell out with them, not the other way round.

Been listening to an excellent ‘Rest is History’ podcast series on British politics in 1974. Need something to block out the young people music they play in the gym.

Check out what Trump is doing in the US - pure fascism. It doesn't happen immediately - it's like boiling a frog - but that's what Reform would bring here given the chance.

A bit before 1974, but Enoch Powell was sacked from the Tory cabinet by Ted Heath after his 'Rivers of Blood' speech. Senior members of the current Tory party, desperate to outdo Reform in racist hatred, are voicing views every bit as poisonous as Powell's.

The bloke has just overseen a ceasefire for the worst genocide of all time and the great issue of the last 500 years so we should cut him a bit of slack.

There’s also an excellent episode about Powell and his varying views over time. Interesting guy. Obviously didn’t end brilliantly.

Just been for my flu and Covid jabs, but wasn’t given Covid because I no longer meet the criteria - not old or sick enough.

Seems like a false economy not to vaccinate as many people as possible, as that’s how vaccines work. Cheers Wes, you cretin.

California is proposing a one-time 5% wealth tax on billionaires. It would effect only 204 individuals, but would raise $100 billion to be spent on Medicaid.

No such problem here in NB, Canada (considered one of the poorest "have not" provinces). Three weeks ago we both received, free of charge, our senior (higher dosage) flu shot and latest variant Covid shot. We paid for RSV shots a couple of years ago (C$250), it is now free here if you are over 75. We also paid for the Shingles vaccine (2 doses @ C$250/shot) 3 years ago. Good investments I believe.

Very short-sighted policy restricting to over 75s considering they're pushing the pneumonia & shingles vaccines to lower age limits. I had COVID back in July and was probably fortunate I'd had the vaccine last year, once you're in your 70s your immune system deteriorates and my annual blood test in August showed my White cell count below the normal range...

I had my flu jab yesterday and was offered the pneumonia jab as well. I said that I would have that next week as I didn’t want 2 on the same day.

I can’t have the Shingles vaccine until I’m 70 (I’m 67), yet my wife had her’s in February when she was 65: they lowered the age limit from 70 to 65 a year ago but if you were already 65, you have to wait until you are 70 ….
