It wasn't an invasion of a country though. The KLA were a recognised terrorist organisation. We're hardly likely to allow that to exist within Europe. And I maintain that we could still have got the job done with much less funding. None of the other countries in Europe have nearly as large a military as we do.

I am living in China, through choice, and find that I am financially better off living here than I was struggling to make ends meet in the UK.

I did have one major scare this week though, we had 24 hours without power, the electric came back on but no internet, I was told it would not be fixed before Monday, my though was why this week?
Anyway it is back up and running on Friday lunchtime so hoping it remains so over the weekend.

How could my original posting, a warm gesture to our neighbours by not wishing to spoil their Christmas suddenly turn into a heated debate about capitalism?

The only observation I would make on this debate is to say that sadly for AdamBanana20 he has lost all the compassion and tolerance of the old Tories and replaced it with the egocentric me, me, me greed, materialism and selfishness of Thatcherism.

I peronally believe that all political ideoligies have a life cycle and the market economy we have had for the last thirty years is in its death throes. Markets unchecked lead to greater social division and, as we are now seeing, a move towards protectionism. This will worsen the recession. Here in the west we are foolishly trying to make a dying ideaoligy work when what we need is a new economic model. Communism, Socialism, Keynesian economics, and all the early models have gone little bits of other ideoligies hang on like religion and aristocracy but it will all fade.

Just out of interest, Sir Godders, after claiming that you don't make spelling mistakes etc, this is how you spell IDEOLOGIES. Sorry, but I couldn't resist it!

Thank you for pointing that out. Did you really expect me to be perfect particularly as I had only just woken up?

If you did then the lovely Mrs Godders would like to put you right on that one.

There is still a huge majority of the population living with very basic needs, we have had another power cut this afternoon, happens quite a lot round here as the power supply is not updated for the needs of today. The country is a long way from the Communist country it once was although some ideas remain from that era. Many sites such as facebook, twitter and you tube are banned, although there is a chinese version of youtube called youku and there are some clips of saints available to view once you get past the chinese language.

St.G - I agree with your original post and as it happens your note about Ideologies....your clearly a decent chap. I hope for a cracking game of end to end football, near misses and goal mouth scrambles but like you I actually don't want a pants Xmas for anyone on either side of the county this year - I've had a tough few weeks and the New Year may be harder for all of us as the economic foul up we all influenced by appears to just become more complicated. So I say a draw, and goodwill and peace to all mankind (both blue & red & white).

All I will say is, I watched a film about Wal-mart and people in China live inside the factory they work in, in horrible cramped conditions and never earn enough to be able to escape. All their money is taken from them to pay for their food and "lodgings". They are the 21st century version of slaves.

It happens in Dubai too. Poor Indians are lured to work there building fatcat hotels and resorts, in dreadful unsafe sites, where there are many injuries and deaths, for a pittance never able to buy their way out of this disgusting situation.

Most of us are blissfully unaware of how the third world is being exploited, even more than it was decades ago.

Capitalism. I don't think so. Bosses and Bankers who close down industry in this country, transfer it abroad, to make even more money, which they squirrel away in the Cayman Islands, to keep more of their vile gotten gains tax free, are just about some of the worst people on the face of the earth.

And I don't think it's too much to write this. We are nowhere near the truth!

    Hello Pompeymeowth,

I would like to draw your attention to a comment on this thread from a rather nice chap EastneyPFC who supports your club:

"St.G - I agree with your original post and as it happens your note about Ideologies....your clearly a decent chap."

I think he meant "you're" rather than "your" but that is merely being picky.

I thought you might like to note that in your little black book of my misdemeanours and hopefully the foreseeable future may now be definable and foreshortened.

    Yours in sweetness and light,

    St Godders
