I had a bro who fell from height round his mates at a young age, at a time when people generally didn't think of this stuff. My house has mains smoke and heat detectors (one level for heat) on both levels. I stayed at a hotel recently that had window safety catches, never did check how they opened fully.

I couldn't live with myself knowing I'd left a kid behind.

My Mrs and her sister are as funny as **** about these things, first thing they do when we go anywhere is check out the emergency exits, you can see them scanning the room as soon as we go in.

Our friend she had a boyfriend who was a health and safety officer and yes he had the personality to match. We once went to a wedding, as we went to sit down for the meal hecwent missing, apparently one of the tables was too close to one of the emergency doors, so he went to the manager and told him when the fire officer came around you did not show him this as a room plan or it would not have passed , so I suggest you put the room as it should be or I will make a call first thing Monday morning, we knew nothing of this until guests at 2 tables were asked to stand aside so their tables could be repositioned. He then counted the number of guests that were there and told us he would be checking how many they were licenced for.
Later in proceedings he went to the toilet, there was another chap in there who went to the loo but didnt wash his hands, so he went to the table the bloke was sitting at and told the other guests he advises them not to share anything from the buffet this man touches as he hadn't washed his hands, needless to say he didnt last long. Not only that when he spoke, he let out a little grunt when he finished a sentence, very weird fella indeed, plus he had midgets thumbs

Lol. I actually work out how to bypass the locks, most of them have a clip that you can flip forward. But failing that I've always got my penknife in the van so I can undo screws and bolts if it comes to it.

Penknife would not help wtih some locks mate, because they are an integral part of the window mechanism, not plastic catches I mean.

Ha ****in hell that's taking things to extremes.

That said, I'm one of those people who make a mental note of emergency exits, especially in crowded places which I have to say I'm less and less fond of the older I get.

I remember going to a comedy night in the basement of a cafe/bar in London once to see my sister in law who's a stand up comedian. The basement only had one entry/exit point which was a steel spiral staircase. On every table was a lit candle and there were fabric drapes all over the stage. Mix in a load of alcohol, people waiting at the bottom of the staircase for people to come down, so that they could get back up.

Kind of took the edge off of the humour tbh

A lot of those ones in hotels like Premier Inn etc are just a simple bar and catch which are screwed to the window frame.

    I've checked lol

The bloke was so ****ing weird, I think we were only in his company, 3 times that was enough.
At the time us lads did some serious boozing, the first night we met him, after his second and last shandy of the night, he told my brother in law about the Perils of drinking and what he should do to cut down. I wouldn't have minded so much but the ****er was at least 4 stone overweight.

To be honest though, if a fire broke out in your room. You're just getting hold of anything you can to break the window / mechanism

It makes me wonder how terrified those migrants must have been when those ****in orcs outside were trying to set fire to the hotels.

The only thing I do do is just make a quick visual check at a distance as I walk to my room that I know where the exits are. The main concern for me would be disorientation, I am quite easily disorientated to my surroundings, hence why it is important Exit signs work and are visible in all corridors.
