I say it all the time. We need smart public spending, but we must have more tax in to make the world function civilly but the wealthy use donors to own politicians and this Labour don’t have the balls to take them on so we’ll pay. I don’t mind a little bit more tax if it can go on kids who need it but not on the House of Lords and the royal family.

It didn’t used to be though. Just an incentive to spend it all a lot quicker. It will be interesting to see how it plays out <laugh>

I think it should be like income tax. For some families it’s god send for getting young adults a car, mortgage, for olders hope of a retirement at a reasonable age, a holiday etc. Higher inheritance should have higher rates, Lower ones lower rates

    Vile but sadly not surprising.

Blocking Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from attending an Aston Villa match is the "wrong decision", the prime minister has said.

Sir Keir Starmer criticised the move, saying "we will not tolerate antisemitism on our streets" and that the role of police was "to ensure all football fans can enjoy the game, without fear of violence or intimidation".

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch branded the decision a "national disgrace" and suggested Sir Keir should act to reverse it.

She wrote on X that Starmer should "guarantee that Jewish fans can walk into any football stadium in this country".

"If not, it sends a horrendous and shameful message: there are parts of Britain where Jews simply cannot go."

Ayoub Khan, the independent MP for Birmingham Perry Barr, welcomed the decision: "From the moment that the match was announced, it was clear that there were latent safety risks that even our capable security and police authorities would not be able to fully manage."

Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar called the decision "shameful" and urged officials to reverse it.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey said it was "a serious mistake," adding: "You don't tackle antisemitism by banning its victims. This decision must be reversed."

Meanwhile, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said the move "takes racial discrimination to a whole new level".

How could I 'take this away' from any issue ... there's only two people on the thread.

My comment was about how Farage will jump on any bandwagon, including this, no matter how hypocritical he's being.

I'll stop posting now to allow everyone else to discuss the real issue.

Falling out with your neighbours is never a good idea ...

... doing it so publicly was a disaster.

We really have become a nation of *'little Englanders' and it's not a good look in my opinion.

*The term has been used in a derogatory manner for English people who are perceived as being excessively nationalistic or xenophobic.

Come on man....get real! You've lived and worked in France for many years,as have I.We both speak French fluently and have loved our times there.
However, we will both have come across the general French attitude to the British many times......which has existed since the second war...and probably well before that...and which has certainly not found its' foundation in Brexit. In fact,a case could be presented for the French seriously welcoming our exit from their cartel with the Germans and actually trying to make it easier for us to stay out.<laugh>
No one can seriously suggest that if we'd have remained in the EU the situation with the small boats would have been any different!

One of the big arguments for leaving was that we'd free ourselves from the effect of men in grey suits.

I actually think that was a good thing both for us and the rest of Europe, it stops everyone from being so radical.

Having seen how Boris, etc, have performed since we 'became free' I'm not too impressed tbh.

I just think it makes us look small and imperialistic but without much clout.

Yep,wouldn't disagree with any of that. Our leadership since June 2016....and continuing still.... has been lamentable to say the very least.

Despite the drawbacks of Europe I think the collective actually calmed things down.

It's all fine having UK governments with huge majorities but Boris, and his successors, just went mad with the power.

I haven't decided about this current lot, there was a big mess to address but it's off to a poor start.

I think almost everyone of us knows it's a big mess to address.....this country is in the **** and no mistake. My proposal to attach the blame is centred around the system, which allows people to assume power, without having any long term commitment to the prospects of their decision making. Policy is centred around short term voter gain, instead of a future in which they commit themselves.Too many short term spivs.....as the current administration is finding out....sadly for us.

Can’t disagree with much there tbh.

There’s just too much of everything …

… too may unemployed pro-benefit scroungers, too many old people, too many tax dodgers, too many fraudulent rich, etc etc etc.

But not enough income for the country to do good things.

I can’t see things ever improving tbh.
