    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Swansea.com Stadium
    Date - 22 October 2025
    Kick off - 7:45pm

Following their battling 0-0 draw away at relegated Southampton, next up for Alan Sheehan’s (inconsistent) Swansea squad is a tricky looking home fixture against QPR.

Last Saturday, Southampton's frustrating start to the season continued as they were held to another draw despite dominating against the Swans.

Saints created a string of chances, with Caspar Jander wasting the clearest opportunity when he hit the post from point-blank range 12 minutes from time.

Leo Scienza also struck the woodwork as Southampton were once again left to rue their inability to find a finish.

The result was a fifth draw in the past seven Championship games for Will Still's team, who have won only two league matches in 2025-26 having been relegated from the Premier League last season.

While manager Still is left wondering how his side did not claim all three points, opposite number Alan Sheehan will be delighted to come away with something after the Swans’ uninspiring display.

Cameron Archer, Adam Armstrong and Shea Charles had all shot off target before Scienza's curling effort from outside the area missed everyone and cannoned off the far post just after the half hour.

The rebound fell to Archer, who could only turn an instinctive effort wide with Swans’ goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux stranded.

The lively Scienza then twice beat Josh Key down the Southampton left only for last-ditch interventions from Marko Stamenic and Vigouroux to save the Swans.

The Swans did a better job of containing their hosts in the second period, though they continued to offer almost nothing in attack.

Southampton thought their moment had finally come when Armstrong's shot was only parried by Vigouroux.

Midfielder Jander was first to the rebound, but his poked effort from four yards hit the inside of the post and then rolled agonisingly across the face of goal.

On the same day, Millwall upset QPR to hand Rangers boss Julien Stephan his first home loss, a victory that saw the Lions move into the Championship play-off places.

Rangers began intent on building on their six-game unbeaten run before Alex Neil's side seized control of the match late in the first half.

Femi Azeez gave Millwall the lead on 36 minutes before Mihailo Ivanovic headed home to double their advantage in first-half stoppage time.

QPR substitute Rumarn Burrell pulled one back late on and Millwall survived a nervy finale to maintain their unbeaten run on the road.

The Swans have played QPR on 59 previous occasions, winning 19, losing 23 and drawing 17.

In last season’s corresponding fixture, the Swans ran out comfortable 3-0 winners thanks to first half goal from Cullen (2) and Franco:

Turning to Wednesday evening, Sheehan still gives the impression that he doesn’t know his best starting XI nor his best formation: quite simply there is no emerging playing style and we have no idea what type of performance we will see from game to game.

Personally, I’d prefer to see a more ambitious and attacking style coming from midfield: additionally players like Ronald and Key need to be ‘rested’ and given a proverbial kick up the backside.

Perhaps Parker can be given a run at right back, and possibly we could play 4:4:2

Parker Cabango (I’d rather Casey but that won’t happen) Burgess and Tymon

    Franco Galbraith Widell Yalcouye

    Eom Vipotnik

That selection won’t happen either …..

As for the outcome on Wednesday, Alan Sheehan desperately needs a win (and again on Saturday when Norwich visit), whilst Julian Stephan will want to get the show back on the road.

All things considered, I’m going for a 1-1 draw. <cheers>

Good start to the week this evening:

I was speaking with Thomas Woodward’s dad Mark in the David Lloyd Club this morning (he’d just played tennis and I was going to play pickleball) - he was driving straight after to Wolverhampton. <cheers>

So after the draw against Southampton it leaves this section of 3 games with only 2 options in terms of result - a win or a loss.
    I'm going with both.

The first of three home games in a row against a QPR team that seem to be as inconsistent as us. Hoping that AS accepts the fact that we need to attack the opposition goal at random to score and win games not play the old boring keep ball that appears to have crept back in to our play. Positivity rules with me here and a 3-1 win for the Swans

What the hell happened to our attacking play when Sheehan took over last season? We are now cautious, no play goes through midfield, just up the wings or over the top. You'd think, at least, if we're playing up the sides they'd be busting a gut to cross every ball for Vip (or anyway) but it's usually stop and pass back.

p.s. great write up and what the hell is pickleball? <laugh>
