THB is our best defender when it comes to breaking the lines or putting decent balls over the top. It’s his best (only) asset at the moment. So I don’t mind him taking time. Quars Is equally slow, but will then just pass sideways or backwards.
Agree he did put a couple of good balls over the top on Saturday but I still think a lot of his play is a bit ponderous and that it seems his first choice is mainly a sideways pass. To be fair to him though, there isn't a great deal of movement in the midfield and up front when the CBs have the ball so hopefully that improves. I agree he has good vision though. I guess ultimately, for me, I was expecting him to shine this season and it hasn't really worked out so far so maybe I'm being a bit harsh.
The promotion season his long balls to Fraser/Adarma were excellent and caused opposition defences problems. Even last season in the Prem, Opta had him in the top 3 centre backs for progressive forward passes. If he could just sort out his defending, he’d be a great defender
Worst manager we have had since Pelligrino. In a way it's funny that, considering how much fans hate Martin, we have hired someone so much worse. We'll be lucky to stay up this season if we keep this clown. Get rid asap.
I understand and accept the concern that if we were to sack Still then we're still faced with SR making the decision as to who replaces him. Because at the end of the day, it is SR who are the number 1 problem. But I don't agree that is a justifiable reason to keep him. I'm not sure he'd survive a defeat to Blackburn. And I don't think I'd want him to either.
What’s the point of sacking him? SR won’t hire anyone better, and if they did they wouldn’t back him with a striker.
If we did sack him, I'd go for Tony Mowbray Heaps of experience. Didn't work out at WBA back end of last season, granted, and missed the playoffs, but prior to that he was on a run of four straight 'hits' in the past decade I would say... Coventry, Blackburn, Sunderland, Birmingham all improved with him and missed him once he was gone He is also liked and well-respected by fans of seemingly all of his former clubs and used to working with younger players, developing people and inheriting situations that need stabilising The counter to that would be that his most recent job didn't go well in this division and he's been getting over a health scare with his cancer diagnosis. Then there is the fact that his brother Darren was sacked by Johannes Spors and would probably have a few words for his older brother on Sport Republic...
I've mentioned Mowbray multiple times in the past - I've long been a fan. But it feels like his time might have passed. I might be wrong. He also failed to get the best out of Armstrong last season. I don't know how he used him, but I wonder if it was down the middle?
They didn't have anyone else to use really. They had Lankshear on loan and Arma and that was it. Dike was injured and so was Maja, but yeah, Arma was used down the middle with Fellows on the right!
