Great point. In fact, every team we’ve played against this season finished higher than us last season. So that makes our start surely one of the most difficult possible. Out of the 8 games played, Newcastle have played only 2 that finished above them… Just saying!!

We have to be tighter in midfield v Chelsea. Not like the second half v Wolves or the first v Man Utd. So I suspect it may be a wide forward who makes way.

Enjoyed it tremendously. Nervy of course, but the atmosphere, the spirit of the team and the sense of belonging in the premiership is something real!

Got a feeling Rigg might make way and going to a back five

For Chelsea I would definitely have Reinildo back and take Traore out and have Rigg as impact sub.. we need physicality against Chelsea, Our defence is outstanding and bringing back Reinildo is putting round pegs in round holes for me

You just need to fire through balls for Isidor in the channels and eventually Bob Sanchez will be tempted out and get himself sent off. For some reason Chelsea have decided to get a player sent off every game so we should try to get it done as early as possible.

Aye but remember we are ****e and will finish bottom on the worst points total ever but also good enough to beat teams we have played so far as they were easy teams and haven't played anyone good enough yet! <confused>

I must have different expectations than a lot of supporters …

… or perhaps some people are just being over cautious and guarded.

Since the end of the game I’ve seen a ‘fact’ gradually crystallise that we didn’t play well but ground out a result/got the job done/rode our luck, etc.

Yet before the game people were saying ‘This is going to be a tougher game than people think’. It seems that even people who predicted a draw or loss are reluctant to say we won because we were the better team, worked hard and deserved the win.

When we get a result it’s often followed up with an excuse of why the other team didn’t play as well as they should …

… I wonder if we’ll get to a point whereby we get the credit for stifling the other team and stopping them playing their normal game because our tactics were superior.

I remember Burnley being praised to the heavens for every clean sheet or narrow win.

id like to see him go with that back 5 v Chelsea away. All those players at the back are capable of making and scoring goals. Hit em on the break ; 0-2 to the lads…

    You’re right mate, it’s a real strength.

Hume made the goal against Wolves, Alderete won the Forest game, Ballard has scored, etc. When you have capable strikers, defenders who can threaten at corners, etc you know you always have a chance.

I’d like to see Xhaka fire in a free kick and have us score from outside the box but we’re developing an all round goal threat that makes us difficult to defend against.

And we have other players still to really feature, like Brobbey and Mundle …

… I can only believe we’ll improve as the season develops.
