685m spent and still losing against Welbeck.

    Eddies a bang average manager.

We look jaded and almost bored, lacking freshness and ideas. Gordon, Joelinton, Elanga, Barnes, Trippier, Burn, Pope. It’s a lengthening list of players who are all playing badly, getting worse. Hard to think Wissa is going to make a world of difference though the losses of hall and Tino have been problematic .

He's got to get Burn out of the side if he's not playing CB. If the back line is parked on the 18 yard box, that's the problem.

Certain individuals have been struggling, but it's not like they're in easy areas to play out from.. They're miles away from the fwds and the fwd miles away from them.

The players look miserable, and I get the impression one or two are already plotting their next move, but they'll all turn up on Tuesday.

The loss of Livramento was a huge blow. Best right back and second choice left back. Having to revert to Trippier and Burn is a massive drop off.

However I don’t know what’s happened fo the rest. Joelinton looks shot, as does Gordon, Elanga has been mostly woeful. Left wing is a bigger concern than right at the moment. Just not sure the 433 works anymore, or at least not with the players we’ve got. I think part of the issue is Howe took us to incredible places but with a counter attack. Most teams have worked us out and our transfer policy has kind of followed the same pattern of buying runners rather than guile in forward areas. That means we just don’t have the players or management to dictate or control a game.

Livramento is also the only player in our defence or midfield who's capable of carrying the ball... Ramsay can, so we need to get him in I think.

The side that's been created looks short in some way in every area of the pitch. Tonali Guimareas and Joelinton are being defeated with one pass over and over again, so we've been figured out I think.

Gordon? He's not arsed about his Newcastle career I don't think. He's got the jenas like attitude since playing for England.

**** me, only 2 posts into the new thread and GG's on the rampage already, this one's gonna be a trainwreck too. Danny Welbeck is widely considered to be playing the best football of his career right now, and has been a key player for a very solid Brighton team for years. But I guess your ego can't handle a player you consider beneath you scoring against us.

Anyway back to the game (remember when these threads were about football matches?), we're fairly strong favourites for this, beating Mourinho is always fun.

The question is, firstly, would EH play Hall (when fully fit) or Burn at left back. I think it would be Hall.

Secondly, Tino seems to be first alternative at left back but he’s also unfit.

Therefore, we are playing Burn at left back who IMO is third choice in that position. For a third choice Burn isn’t a bad choice and, in the ordinary case of events, you wouldn’t be expecting him to play in that position very often.

In that context Burn is an acceptable choice for that position as realistically who would you play that would be a better third choice left back?

From the Forest thread 2 weeks ago, Elanga was raw and hadn't convinced him at that point, a few days later Elanga is the biggest waste of money in history:

My opinion is irrelevant, but personally I wouldn't play Burn there and I'd look for an alternative solution. I saw enough two seasons ago to know he's not comfortable there. I'm all for out the box solutions at this point. There's a number of formational options available or we could potentially use other players in the role...I think Gordon could be a very good full back under the right coaching stewardship.. Or like a few have suggested maybe use Murphy there.

just ideas, but If you don't try anything else you can't make the claim there's no better options.

The second goal was actually Barnes's fault If anyone individually though imo. He doesn't bother his arse to track the runner.

A bang average manager who managed to:

    1. Avoid relegation against the odds in his first part season when we were going over the cliff at break neck speed.
    2. In his first full season got us into the CL.
    3. Got us to a League Cup Final in 2023.
    4. Win the League Cup (the first domestic trophy of value in 70 years) and get us back into the CL last season.

You really are a prize moron when it comes to histrionics and hyperbole especially during matches. When there is a village full of village idiots you still turn out to be that village’s idiot. Do Slot and Pep win every game? How much have other teams spent? Amazingly, we aren’t the only ones spending and the ones we are trying to compete with started from a much better position. You bleat on about posters getting personal but you usually start the personal stuff off and then claim victim status when others respond.

Every one is entitled to their opinion (including you) but this is a public forum so if people don’t agree with you or your reasoning then don’t be surprised if they respond and pick holes in your argument, rational and logic.

How do you know other alternatives were not tried out in training? EH has seen the players more than us and will be aware of the possibilities including Murphy but has chosen Burn. Also, Burn has played there before quite successfully at the time and I prefer not to change the whole team and formation around just because one player and his normal replacement are not available especially to a tough away game.

Neither goal seemed to be directly Burn’s fault.

I'm not going to argue all day about it, but we've seen this before two years ago.

Training isn't the same as a match anyway even it's been tried., which it probably hasn't. I guess we can only call on what we actually see.

I didn't blame Burn I just blamed Barnes, but the 1st goal was of interest to me because Botmans initial movement was to get over to help Burn thinking it was going to Minteh.

If you think Burns the best option that's fine, but I'm never going to agree based on what I saw for a prolonged period of time... Not yesterday. It's only my view which matters not one bit to anyone else or the situation.

Fair enough. All I’m saying is that I trust EH to have considered all options before making his team choices and that Burn as a third choice left back is not that bad a choice especially given he is a current England international albeit not in that position. Not looking to get into an argument. Just responding to your post with elaboration of my thinking.
