Pompey headed into the international break by beating a Middlesbrough side who started the day at the top of the table, while next Tuesday they host Coventry, who are currently at the summit.

But John Mousinho's men have an equally challenging test in between, with a visit to high-flying Leicester on Saturday (7.45pm kick-off).

The Foxes were relegated from the Premier League after finishing 18th last term – 13 points adrift of safety.

That was despite shocking the football world by claiming the top-flight crown just nine years ago, while it was as recently as 2021 when they lifted the FA Cup.

City are making a decent fist of bouncing straight back, however, and are sitting third in the standings after the opening nine games.

Martí Cifuentes replaced Ruud van Nistelrooy as manager over the summer and has tasted defeat in the league just once so far.

But there was a run of four successive draws – including a goalless contest with Coventry – before the 3-1 victory at Swansea a fortnight ago.

This will be the first competitive meeting between Pompey and Leicester since the 2011/12 Championship campaign, when both games finished 1-1.

    TEAM NEWS
Pompey are missing Jacob Farrell (groin), Callum Lang (hamstring), Nicolas Schmid (hand), Conor Shaughnessy (hamstring), Franco Umeh (hamstring) and Thomas Waddingham (thigh), while Josh Murphy (ankle) remains a major doubt.

Harry Souttar (knee) is the only long-term absentee for Leicester, although Stephy Mavididi missed the last match with a hamstring problem. Former Blues keeper Asmir Begovic is likely to feature on the bench.

Off to my first game of the season today, got D&D this afternoon then once that finishes at 4, I'll head to the station (possibly via Burger King - I don't trust stadium food) and grab a train, should have plenty of time.

Not too thrilled by the prospect of walking the dark streets of Leicester at 10pm-ish, but it is what it is.

Pompey are unchanged this evening, so still no Josh Murphy!

Leicester City have ex Pompey keeper Asmir Begovic on the bench.

Half time. 1-0 to Leicester. They have controlled the first half, and took the lead with a lovely goal by Aaron Ramsey in the 26th. minute. Pompey almost equalised in the 32nd. minute with Yang hitting the underside of the crossbar with a classy effort, from a Conor Chaplin corner.

Josef Bursik has made a few good saves, to keep us only a goal down.

Final whistle. 1-1 draw. Pompey were the better side in the second half, with a fine goal from John Swift (his first Pompey goal) in the 58th minute, from a clever pass from Yang Min-Hyeok.

We brought on Mark Kosznovszky for Conor Chaplin in the 62nd. minute, Adrian Segecic for John Swift and Florian Bianchini for Yang in the 74th. minute, and Terry Devlin for Jordan Williams in the 81st. minute.

First half was pretty poor. Aside from a shot against a crossbar, most of it consisted of crosses straight into the Leicester goalkeeper's hands, though some good saves by Bursik. Second half we were much better, creating quite a few chances, had some nice shots. Whatever John said at half time worked

On another note there was a light and pyrotechnic display in the stadium before the match, which was kinda cool. They could have picked a better song, the song made me think of cheesy premier League adverts. But it makes me wish they'd have something like that at fratton. Of course, considering they banned the ticker tape, pyrotechnics are definitely not gonna happen sadly.

If you look closely you may be able to see me! Though I think I'm a bit off camera (near the bottom) as I was literally right on the edge of the Portsmouth fans.

What a great result and, to me, a valuable bonus point on the road in a fixture where I thought we'd get hammered

Glad you got to the game Lapras.
In a couple of games this season Pompey have had a grip on the first half of the game but lost control in the second.
Yesterday they flipped it round - as you say Woops..
What a good result against a clearly very good side.
For me the man of the match was Bursik who has been an excellent deputy for the last three games.
