Agreed. But I somewhat put that down to how odd they so often seem to be. And how late they often are I don't think helps either. Take the Derby game: Fellows for Stewart was odd, because it put Armstrong in the middle; then Downs for Scienza was odd, because, well, there's a clear difference in quality; and then bringing Azaz on felt like it was us correcting the error of taking Scienza off - but it was done too late and left us unbalanced with Fraser going off.
Could we drop armstrong to the bench at the moment? A front 6 of this should be running rings around most midfields jander charles fellows azaz scienza archer subbing either jander or charles for downes is a step down and we lose forward motion fraser / armstrong / robinson are good replacements for the wide roles but not so much through the middle but they aren't on the same level as fellows or scienza downs for archer is a drop down too - but putting armstrong in there isn't going to work either. So our bench is good in that it doesn't drop us too much but it's not a game changer.
I'd like to see that in front of Jelert Edwards Wood Wellington in a back 4 with McCarthy as that's our first team sheet if all are fit.
I dont blame Still for that at all. The set up was correct, it created 3-4 chances that the majority of Championship forwards would have put away. He has really managed to tighten up the defence from the first few fixtures this season as well. He can't help that the club have supplied him with players that would struggle to find the peddles on a bike, some of those misses would bring shame in pub leagues and they have been consistently this bad at finishing all season. That was the second open goal Jander has missed this season ffs. Any game where we are creating this amount of chances only for the players to get extreme vertigo 5 yards out is on the recruitment team.. (and the players themselves).
Shame he missed for obvious reasons, but also because other than that I thought he was very good, again, today.
We played 5 at the back and never changed it… His subs made us worse. Sideways / negative football for the last half an hour. He can take a portion of blame for not winning today too
There have been other games where I would agree with that but chance creation was not a problem today, just square feet in front of goal.
Massively overstated. These are professional footballers who've been at clubs since they were literally children. I point blank refuse to believe that 1.5 years under that joker has systematically undone every other bit of coaching they had in the previous 15+ years. Actually, it’s a bit poor of Still to publicly mouth off about it. Not my fault Guv, it's the previous guy. **** off, most of today's players didn't play under Martin. He's completely out of his depth and criticism of Martin is his life jacket.
The last half an hour was simply pathetic tbh. For a game we should be looking to win, we created and offered nowhere near enough, in my opinion. Negative passing and looped crosses to no one
That was exactly the team I posted on the WS out thread... I don't think it's rocket science, just using the tools at our disposal in the best way.
Yeah just seen. On the last few games that's the 11 that seems to have the most about it - lets play them (fitness allowing) in that way. It's playing them in their best positions and it's playing the "best" from the team in that position I think.
Agree, that’s our best 11 on paper based on the first bit of the season. Id argue we should keep the same 11 as much as possible for the Bristol game though. Away, 5 at the back makes more sense. Plus we really need to see some relationships building
Perhaps, I just think I have an aversion to 5 at the back as it sets the team up with the immediate mindset that we've come to defend as opposed to come to attack. And if putting THB in defence means dropping one of fellows / scienza / azaz out of the front 6 for it I'd rather not see THB in the team
