Bearing in mind Mendonca done his dough from football, I always thought we should have played a friendly up there and had all the proceeds go to him. He is loved there as much as in SE7.
A bit off topic, but here goes. I went to a testimonial for Scott Young in 2003, this was against Cardiff on a Friday night. I stayed in Cardiff that night and got the train back to London then went straight upto Grimsby as Notts were playing Yorkshire on the Sunday in a 40/50 over game. I went up there on my jack as my mate had other plans on the Saturday so met him the next day. This was all good and spent the night doing a one man pub crawl in some hovels. However, whilst waiting for my mate on the Sunday I discovered that the previous night Midge Ure was doing a gig up there. I was absolutely gutted as he is THE man. I was a massive Ultravox fan. I could not help but think whilst I was f****** around the previous night I could have been watching him.
Back in the day when we used to have them, we did have a testimonial for him. He still had his hip problem so only came on for the last 10 minutes, but his movement near goal was still there and he had a good shout for a penalty. The fans were gutted the ref didn't give it.
