The man is clueless. Yeah we played ok and miss a load of chances. But that doesn’t forgive the absolute shambles at the end where all form of tactics were kicked and stamped on for 5 at the back with 5 at front
WS was asking the players to be fearless today but I think we win that match easily with a bolder team selection. A 4-3-2-1 or 4-1-2-3 gives us better control in the centre of midfield and not so much focus on the wings. We had the chances in the last 15 minutes of the first half when we got to the byline with low crosses but there weren't enough players in the box at times. The second half we ran out of ideas and reverted to type with floaty crosses into the box after a period of recycling the ball with too little tempo. Yes, we still should've won but I saw little evidence today of playing to Archer's strengths. Far too early to call for the manager to go yet but he has to find a way to get Azaz and Fellows with Scienza in the team, sooner rather than later imo.
the most logical thing to me seems to be to play a flat 4 with Charles and Jander ahead of them and Fellows, Azaz and Scienza behind Archer. Or if you don’t think Armstrong can be dropped try him or Fellows from the left. Armstrong just shoots anyway whenever he gets the ball so cutting in might work well for him
Yeah Still looks out of his depth, but in all honesty both the Spors and Sport Republic thread need resurrecting before this one. Spors has totally ****ed recruitment
He’s got one thing wrong. Not sure I’d count that as “totally ****ed”. Granted, it was probably the most important thing…
Disagree. If we can’t manage to score at home against Swansea, when we have the likes of Scienza, Fellows, Azaz, Armstrong, Archer, Robinson etc, then that’s on the manager.
But we have to start playing the best players (or the ones brought in to create chances and goals) consistently at some point.
We just had two weeks off. Okay, Azaz played once for Ireland, but we don’t have the luxury of planning for games ahead right now.
Okay, well probably the same as the Liverpool head of recruitment feels with Wirtz, Frimpong and Ekitike on the bench.
I don’t understand the comparison. Liverpool just won the Prem. The manager has earned the right to do what he wants. And their squad is stacked with world class players.
Second game in a row they've been on the bench mind. Just said on the match fred that we really need to start getting Azaz in the team imo. Hardly any minutes recently.
Well they’ve lost three on the bounce, and he’s struggling to find the right mix with some quality players at his disposal. That’s pretty similar to us (though he has the advantage of having some real life strikers).
Still see it as too early to be calling for him to be sacked personally. Do remain unconvinced though. Not a fan of his subs and general in game management.
I'm still of the view that SR should be getting stick ahead of Still. But if two wins from 10 games turns into two wins from 12 games next weekend, I think he'll be under huge pressure. I don't blame Still for leaving Downs on the bench today - I probably wouldn't have turned to him either. But it's a clear example of further SR failure. We need a goal at home and we decide that not even using a fifth sub is better than turning to our new striker.
