I am not a huge fan of International Football but I still want our Country to win. If we won the World Cup again I think England would go berserk.
Just reading who has qualified - it might have been easier to write who hasn’t . A selection of those qualified: Qatar Jordan Uzbekistan Cape Verde Canada New Zealand Australia and this is before the lesser teams qualify through the playoffs
Absolutely embarrassing. Nothing to do with excellence, everything to do with brown envelopes & the DEI agenda.
The World Cup finals should be played amongst the elite teams. But it won’t be, greed gets in the way again.
FIFA / UEFA’s rationale is that they are trying to spread the share of the pie. In reality all they are doing is devaluing caps still further, and creating more & more mismatches. In so many games this last week one country / team has been 1/33 in the betting. This cannot be good for football.
In fairness to the Faroes, they have given it a real go this time and recently beat the Czech Republic. I'd love to see them make it to the top table. I think 32 teams works well, as in eight groups of four, with the top two from each group going through. There's a nice symmetry to that. But with 48 there will be teams going through for finishing third. Why reward a team for finishing third out of four? Ludicrous. Having said all that, if someone wants to pay me to attend Cape Verde v Uzbekistan in Miami, I'd be up for that.
FIFA is bought and paid for by Saudi money. The Elite UEFA & South American Nations should form a rival Association. Association Football belongs to the English FA anyway by rights. FIFA are the thieves and imposters. Watch the TV money collapse when FIFA have no decent teams left to represent them. Even the Saudi's couldn't cover that loss.
So, it looks like Graham Potter is going to take on the Sweden job. I wish him well, as he seems like a decent enough fellow. But this is what gets my goat. Sweden are currently bottom of their qualifying group. However, they will still get a play-off berth because they won their Nations League group. If that's the case, what is the point in them bothering with the qualifiers if they know they are guaranteed a second bite of the cherry? They could make it to the World Cup despite failing miserably in the actual qualifiers, whereas a team that gave it their all (like the Faroes) get sod all. International football is a joke.
