Lads made his choices or someone else has "advised", but a young lad with lure of Premier League football is too much for some, including local lads, not all take the bait, but us getting promoted to the Premier league will have definitely brought about an "oh s**t" moment for him. Thank the lad for last Saturday but he has made his decision and also made no secret and about some of the "fans giving him stick" as soon as Sky BBC,ITV etc put a microphone infront of him minutes after full time when the interviewer didn't even mention anything of the sort. Alas, he's a young man and will learn to "let his feet do the talking". Could put Jobe in the category aswell saying about Sky ect, good for him and refreshing, but the loudest dig any of them can have is having the Premier league lion on the shirt. Roberts has had pelters but he isn't coming out saying xyz. But I digress,would be a no to a loan for me, and I hope we don't over utilise the loan market next season, you can't build a squad on loanees. All of the above is ofcourse in my humble opinion.

 

All the Boro fans i know are going mental. Brighton have just signed 16 year old twin brothers from their youth academy who also represent England at youth level, and were both Boros biggest prospects.

Credit where credits due, Brighton are a very well run football club buying young talent and selling them on for a huge profit once theyve fully established themselves.

 

Shocking, they should stick to developing their own local youngsters... fa need some balls and introduce rules to that effect

Spot on! Should be some regional rules to it imo! If a club takes a player from outside their region, they are indicating they are a level of prospect above their local lads and as such should pay compensation! I don't agree with their being no protection for young lads being poached down to age anyway, its even worse seeing a young lads move about 6 hours away to do it!

 

P.S not going to get too upset for Boro like!

 

Gotta give Brighton some marks for being astute, but it shows they must have scouts going round a host of other clubs academies, hoping to poach their talent before original club can benefit from it.

Agree, but fa need to grow a pair and bring in age rules. Stuff Brighton coaching network, they need to coach their own local lads.

 

I don't agree with this, Blondie, and most decent clubs will be doing the same, otherwise nobody would find 'hidden gems' unless they're local . . . . clubs in 'other' regions might not notice potential whereas 'outsiders' might.

My Grandson has been asked to attend 'Boro's coaching school . . . . I'd love it to be S.A.F.C. looking at him, and they might soon, but I'm chuffed that 'out of our region' (loosely) 'Boro are

There definitely should be some protection once they’ve been at club a couple years, even below 16.

We had a load taken a few years back under Tweedledee and Tweedletwat and it’s bullshit.

If Boro have invested 2 years or whatever into these lads they deserve some protection for development.

Yep. I know a little about these two from a friend whose son went to school with them.

One is better than the other, but the " other" seems to have a better attitude and has made the first team bench.

Absolutely sinful that young lads can be carted the whole length of the country, away from friends, away from everything they know on the gamble of a PL club.

Clearly, this should be stopped, and Brighton are not the worst offenders. Look to Chelsea and Liverpool for that.

Clubs will continue to do this for as long as parents want their kids to chase the dream. Can't blame the kids for wanting to have a crack somewhere.

The only way to encourage clubs to look locally is to have homegrown players, ie players who came through junior levels within their region, not count towards PSR.

The difficulty in a place the size of the UK is to determine what region belongs to each club as you would need to include all 92 football league clubs at a minimum. As an example, how do you determine where does Man Utd's and Man City's region starts and finishes and that's before considering the other football league clubs in the greater Manchester area. I guess you could potentially start with a distance circumference from the club but that in itself causes issues based upon population density and as such the available talent
