One as bad as the other. I’ve learnt through this that nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize close in January of each year. Trump’s desperate to get his hands on it but the current ceasefire came far too late for him to be considered for the 2025 award. Nominations for the 2026 prize close on January 31st. I somehow doubt there’ll be a peace to be rewarded by then.
It's the humility of the man expecting to be "given it" not to earn it because of what is achieved......doesn't he realize it is the office he holds that achieves the reward through the power of the position not just his ability......this is the man who attacked the USA Parliament with his cronies.....who he absolved from all responsibility of crime the moment he became President again......and as notDistant has already said...nomination for the 2025 Nobel Peace prize ended in January.......will he get it next year or will things become worse as he moves on to nomination Mk2.....Ukraine.
We have one squirrel in particular in our garden who seems to think he's died and gone to heaven.......he is running around in circles collecting acorns....there are hundreds if not thousands laying around and regularly falling from the trees above him. He buries one and then he has a nibble on another and he then continues to collect others and bury them....it goes on for hours and he is looking knackered and maybe tired and possibly overweight by now. Come next spring/summer we will find little acorn trees growing in various places in the garden....even popping their heads out of the evergreen hedges that we have....they take some digging up because their roots go down quite deep. PS.....We'll have to call him Squirrel Nutkin.....eat your heart out Beatrix Potter. What do squirrels do the years that acorns are not preduced.....other than go hungry...?
Over at Kelsey Park (Beckenham) 6 miles from here the squirrels end up mugging you.....they come on the park bench where your sitting and check-out your pockets.....they are so tame that they sit on your lap and have a tug-o-war with you for the peanut bag....amusing....but too tame for their own safety with some of the weirdo's you get these days.
In the early 1950's when I was still at school we where offered "a shilling a tail" (a new 5p) for every grey squirrel tail we could get....trouble is you'd needed an air rifle to be able to catch them. Red squirrels were dramatically dwindling....the bigger and more aggresive grey squirrel where killing them and passing on diseases that the red squirrels died from. PS.....There are red squirrels on Brownsea island in Poole Harbour....but there so hard to detect and shy away from humans. I put a bread crust in one of the bird feeders this morning.....the squirrels generally make short shiffed of that.....but at the moment Squirrel Nutkin is so busy rounding up piles of acorns he hasn't noticed the bread in the feeder.
