Im lucky enough to live in one of the few still nice parts of London that is relatively scum-free. I previously lived in LB of Westminster where as you know I was robbed (attempted) in broad daylight for my Rolex, and within the space of two weeks saw an elderly black cleaner being dragged by her hair from Barclays cash point for £200, then saw 2 Indian tourists robbed by a man with a long machete for their suitcases. All in Westminster. I left soon after.

this is the reality folks …

Orpington is good if you like Undertakers, nail bars, barbers, minimarts, charity shops, vape shops, and coffee shops.

Folk in Ponders End get mugged for their Casio watch and £2.25.

I'm still fond of the place, but only in a nostalgic way. The place is a cowpat these days.

    Like most places then.
Add casinos, places that unlock stolen phones, strange sweet shops and smoking clubs and there you have it.

Bit of a change from Cuffs, Army & Navy, and BHS <wah>

Grew up in Woolwich and it was awful 40
Years ago. Now it’s like the opening scene from Pivate Ryan: you wanna check out the stats for the Somalian inhabitants, they are very scarey numbers

Had one of my first jobs in Spray St Woolwich back in the 80s, so I know the area well @ speak from experience. Back then it was full of English working class, tough even back then but you never felt unsafe.

a couple of years ago I went back to Woolwich …that grass square outside the station …Jesus wept :headbang:

The Turkish barbers, American candy shops & Vape shops are nothing more than money laundering operations.

No customers, and look at how expensively they are kitted out.

Local authorities should be given new powers to cap their proliferation in Town Centres.

New powers will be pointless without massive new resources.
Are people willing to pay 10p more income tax to have clean, crime-free streets and good public transport?
    Nope.

Woolwich like Lewisham is totally unrecognisable, I’ve worked in both areas and have no desire to visit them again - London will be a no go area sooner than later !

Woolwich had a great market. The fella selling toys from the lorry “give me 5 pounds ….”

someone posted a video the other day outside the old tramshed. Aside from the 54 bus nothing seemed to be local

My old manor and birthplace, Thamesmead, was always rough. We thought Woolwich was upmarket.

Woolwich was upmarket compared to Thamesmead :emoticon-0148-yes: has some lovely Houses but unfortunately too many concrete estates in the mix

The Wetherspoons is no longer there I gather, the nearest one would be the one in chavvy Petts Wood, next to the old home of Kojak.

Bromley went to pieces the moment they opened a Primark opposite the McDonald's.

Both are magnets for dindoos. (“din doo nuffin”)

My local High St was due to get a McDonalds several years ago. Residents mounted a highly successful campaign to object to it, and McD eventually gave up. We have relatively low levels of crime & anti social behaviour as a result.

    Join the dots.

Something in that to account for the 227 and 208 buses heaving on their way out of town.
