Meanwhile, in the real world. Downing Street has pointed to comments by Steve Witkoff, Trump’s Middle East envoy, who posted praise on X about the role played by Starmer’s national security adviser Jonathan Powell. The prime minister’s spokesperson said on Monday: “We’ve been offering our full support for these efforts, over the last few weeks and months, including working behind the scenes with the US, Arab and European nations to help develop ideas and build consensus on the steps that need to be taken to deliver a plan for Gaza’s future.” Bronwen Maddox, the director of the Chatham House thinktank, said: “The UK has made it very clear all along that it cares about this, and that matters. For all that Israel complained about the UK recognising Palestinian statehood, that did play an important role in signalling how engaged the UK and others were in what was happening in the region.” Officials point to the roles played by Powell and Tony Blair, the former prime minister, and insist that their experience in piloting the Northern Ireland peace process proved invaluable in bringing Israel and Hamas to the negotiating table. They claim this influence was in part substantive. Point 13 of the 20-point plan, for example, deals with demilitarisation of Gaza, mirroring how important weapons decommissioning proved in the Good Friday agreement. Point 18 meanwhile calls for an “interfaith dialogue process” aimed at “emphasising the benefits that can be derived from peace” – an echo of the Forum for Reconciliation and Peace, which was set up in Northern Ireland in 1994.
Meanwhile, in the real world, not Labours make believe one. America are stopping intelligence cooperation with the UK due to Starmers stance on Chinese spying and ignoring MI6 advice
Meanwhile, Sky backs BBC report... https://news.sky.com/story/britain-...-between-israel-and-hamas-beth-rigby-13449213
Beth Rigby a hard left supporter, butters up Starmer to make him look important on the world stage, as he had nothing to do with the peace plan except recognising Hamas to everyone's disdain, and now he has committed us to pay them 20m for a war they started knowing we are skint supporting illegal migrants costing 6 billion and rising. please log in to view this image
Britain has been playing a role ‘I’m told’, I can’t say if it was an important role or even what the role was, but trust me, Britain played a role behind the scenes. Got ya
Beth Rigby stretching the truth In the flurry of the following 48 hours, Sir Keir and another 20 or so leaders were invited to Egypt to bear witness to the signing of this deal, with many of them deserving some credit for the effort they made to bring this deal around - not least the leaders of Qatar, Egypt and Turkey, who pressed Hamas to sign up to this deal. He was invited to bear witness to the signing no other reason except for his photo op It was other Muslim nations who pressed them to support Qatar, Egypt and Turkey that was because Israel had bombed their biggest warmongering supporter in the region Iran into submission
another exert from the article Bridget Phillipson learned that diplomatic lesson the hard way yesterday when she was publicly lambasted by the US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee for suggesting to my colleague Trevor Phillips that the UK "had played a key role behind the scenes" and failed to mention Mr Trump by name. "I assure you she is delusional," tweeted Governor Huckabee. "She can thank @realDonaldTrump anytime just to set the record straight".
Macron is getting the Trump treatment now. I don’t think he likes Starmer and Macron the way he’s deliberately embarrassed them. Recognising a Palestinian state clearly pissed him off and put a spanner in the works of him getting this peace deal sorted.
Isnt it amazing how the hard left only like excerts fom the bits they like, and ignore the rest, most of which is more important. Starmer was shown up on the world stage an embarrasment for Britain stopped in his tracks claiming part of Trumps thunder
They only exist because they hate Israel and to defend the Palestinian people. Give them their own state. Isn’t that right, Starmer?
BUT BUT wait a minute i was wearing my Stevie Wonder specials, cos im only partially sighted, benifits day today, im fibbing of couse but DWP belive all of our shyte for benifits, and im loving it , as they tell us daily on tick tock ,you like my ak47 cheek tatoo
I don't usually come onto political threads and will avoid them in future ... ... the intense fanaticism is really quite weird and unpleasant. I can't wait for the Wolves game, and the match thread, to be honest. Come on RTB, get it sorted mate.
Perhaps if Hard left member stopped making incessant political threads with lies and maipulations of the truth, they wouldnt get replies they dont like. the sooner the political threads on here are banned the better, until then people that dont agree with the lies and truth distorted articles will counter the lies which is thier right.
Seems to be a lot of anger in these threads, might be they way they come across in the written word. However angry discussion tends to not lead to sensible decisions. Going back in my hole now
Me too, people becoming hysterical for no good reason ... ... this is what happens when people can't go to the matches and take out their emotions on other subjects. I'll mainly stick to the football from now on.
Well one of the hard left supporter came on a thread about the government going against MI5/6 and made complete light of it as if it was nothing , It was an MI6 report about China spies worming thier way in to every aspect of British life schools, collages, defence, teaching, telecomunications, warships, local politicians. yet starmer ignored the requests asked by MI6 the information on a prosecution for spying which in turn led to aquital , now being persued again for prosecution
Don’t blame you marra, mods should have put their foot down on a couple of posters months ago who insulted people without any provocation
