We had a double decker take the wrong route a year or two back....sheared the top level off. Constructed a heavy metal protection to protect the bridge from being damaged....of course it meant the bus would be damaged even more.....but hey oh....passengers can be replaced .
Tomorrow I’m off to Home Park for Covid and Flu vaccinations. I’m expecting a battle. I’ve already had a patronising email saying “YOU arranged a Covid appointment but you’re a senile old fart who’s obsessed with your own survival and putting yourself ahead of the health of the Nation”. And I’m going to say “No. You total incompetent idiots send me a message over your steam-driven system TELLING me to arrange an appointment which I duly did as a responsible citizen.” “Also, I suspect you are now fixing the wrong problem. You are now withdrawing staff from other more important tasks to come here and have this argument with me. This has an opportunity cost to it in the essential services they aren’t providing elsewhere when you already have people here ready to stick a needle in my arm and the cost of the vaccine is probably less than the cost of having you here to tell me I can’t have it. You are wasting money covering your own asses which could be spent on doing something productive.” I’m quite looking forward to it.
Sounds like a teeny weeny touch of stress and anxiety creeping in there notDistant. We have been told that we need Covid and Flu boosters starting from October.....last time we missed out by 24hrs.....we hadn't been told that there was a cut-off date.....so we didn't get done......I would think there would have been a lot of elderly people not done last time because of not realizing. Haven't they raised the age for automatic covid jabs..........someone said 75 ?
Yes so I don’t qualify. But they have my DOB so don’t send the invite. It’s not difficult. Is this number greater to or less than this one. There you go. Done.
I suspect there are many over whatever age who are fed up with being pestered with invitations to get a needle stuck in and frankly don't bother anymore. There is a thing about over doing the fear factor where people just switch off. I'm having a flu jab tomorrow at the Chemist. I am getting reminded to have one at least twice a week even though I booked it over a month ago. You might like this one as a tale of waste. A person I know waited months and months to have an injection in his knee. Finally he got an appointment and turned up at the Docs ready to go. Whilst sorting himself out he mentioned to the Doctor he had an ongoing pain in his left ear. The Doc offered to have a look at it. After about one minute he concluded there was no problem that could be seen. The bloke then began rolling his trouser leg up for the jab. The Doc told him it couldn't be done even though the needle and content were on his desk. Reason being that he had taken up his alloted time with his ear and despite protest refused to do it. This meant him going back on a list for another 6 months and the content of the needle being ditched as it couldn't be kept. You really couldn't make it up could you.
Three years back I had an appointment with a specialist regarding a painful knee.....it was at one of the smaller hospitals in our health trust......so I had to drive over there.....the Hospitals pathetic small car park was full.....and I had to drive a mile or so to find some quiet side street away from all the yellow lined roads. Saw the specialist.....who gave my knee an injection there and then......he told me not do anything physical for a couple of days to allow the injection to do its job.......needlest to say after a twenty minute walk back to the car and a half hour drive back home......I found no benefit at all from the injection although I rested it for a couple of days.....the damage had been done walking back to the car.
We had our flu jabs at Home Park this morning. As expected, we were disbarred from having the Covid vaccine. We'd booked early times so we could get on with the rest of the day: Mary's was at 9:15 and mine at 9:20. At 9:15 we were still queued up outside. Late start. It wasn't warm and after a while a very elderly lady in a wheelchair had to plead for early entry to get out of the wind. What I took to be Argyle employees were directing arrivals and manning the doors and they were doing the best they could but with the NHS contingent inside not ready to receive guests, there was not much they could do. They did get this lady in though. Full marks. We were the youngest in the queue (even me) by some distance, which included a good proportion with mobility devices, walking sticks, electric buggies etc. Once inside, this lot were then processed and asked to queue for the jabs. This is in the main grandstand hospitality space, which you know has chairs for 000's, but had any been provided for those needing them? Of course not, queue on foot and then even take the injection on foot. On top of having invited thousands for Covid vaccination, accepted the bookings and only then decided the vaccinations were not necessary, this is a disgraceful way to treat elderly people. It was not a problem for us but it's just not good enough for the majority that were there.
I heard Donald Trump say this morning that he'd achieved peace in the Middle East after "a log period of war, which is has been going on for, I don't know, maybe hundreds of years". It's odd that a fundamentalist Christian like Trump hasn't come across the Book of Exodus tucked away there in the Old Testament Bible, including the killing for new born Hebrew boys and subsequent drowning of quite a few of Pharoah's troops in the Red Sea. That's thought perhaps to have originated in the 13th century BC. Near enough for Trump I suppose but he'll be livid when he finds out he could have claimed the first peace in 35 centuries.
Still fighting going on in Gaza....Hamas finding an excuse to get their thugs on the street to "police" against an opposition Palestinian family set-up.
Do you know I'm sure I still have a pair of shoes like tat somewhere. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/10/10/science/bearded-vulture-nest-medieval-13th-century-sandal
