It's being reported that Evra was called a negro but here's a twist.

Both players spoke to FA officials during the investigation and there have been suggestions Suarez was unaware language that is acceptable in Uruguay is viewed as racist in Europe.
Suarez told Uruguayan media last month: ''There is no evidence I said anything racist to him. I said nothing of the sort.
''There were two parts of the discussion – one in Spanish, one in English. I did not insult him. It was just a way of expressing myself. I called him something his team-mates at Manchester call him, and even they were surprised by his reaction.''

    ...............................................................................................................

Me personally, this is a fascinating defence. How can you be guilty of something you know nothing about? I know it's wrong but he's saying he didn't.

He knows he's cornered and he's trying to get out. I bet racism is worse in Uruguay.

I think that if he was not made aware of the rules of conduct then he can't be fully blamed, but that the club must then take some responsibility.

In saying he was still abusive even if he wasn't intending to be racist so he won't come out of this completely clean.

nah he's totally spot on (even though i hate the rat faced bastard)

in uruguay 'negrito' isnt an insult, in fact it's often used as an affectionate term (and mostly not even directed at black people).

also to just assume racism is worse in Uruguay (a country most people know nothing about), is ironically, a bit racist.

He clearly did know what he was saying because he was using it in a provocative way.

Personally I hope they give lengthy bans to both Suarez and Evra, they are both odious little twats.

Ignorence is no defence in law. I thought all players and management staff were required to sign code of conduct agreements anyway?

You can't tell me that the Evra or any other player for that matter, was in the least bit abusive. But this was all deemed acceptable until Evra plays the race card. Abuse is abuse whatever form it takes and to paint Suarez as the lone wrong doer is in itself entirely wrong. I'm not defending Suarez, nor am I standing up for him. I would however criticise Evra for a) rising to the abuse or b) falsley labelling Suarez as racist, something probably more damaging than the supposed name calling Evra 'experienced'.

I do agree with this, not the first time Evra has used the race card either. I hate both the ****s, in an ideal world Evra would've retaliated by headbutting Suarez and goring himself to death on that massive nose, causing Suarez to suffocate. The world would be a better place. <sigh>

    That's fantastic.
He's played in Europe for the last few years.
He should have learned that it's not in the least bit affectionate over here.

And the comment about Uruguay was based on the fact that having read Tim Vickery's blogs on the BBC these last few years, South America doesn't exactly sound like a happy melting pot of racial equality...

    cant argue with that.

SA's a big place though, not all countries are equally bad. similar to europe.

  14. That's ****ing pathetic. You can't say "you're a black bastard" and then say "omg saying that is bad in this country? I didn't know". Ignorance is not an excuse. He should get banned for 3 games.

Saurez is just a victim of not understanding the English game. Racism is not accepted here but calling Nani and **** Michael Jackson is acceptable.

If he was using 'negrito' in the affectionate terms then he's not in the wrong...although he should still get a ban for being an almighty ****.
