4.00 Chepstow Torrent 18/1 Ran some really nice races as a juvenile last season and a mark of 117 with him fresh after a summer on his back is very tempting. This time last year he was beaten just 4 lengths by Liam Swagger, who was in receipt of 7lbs.
Cracking races at Newmarket tomorrow. Won't suggest anything as I seem to put a curse on anything I select. Have a good day all
Sorry chap but jinxed you on the Skelton horse today and have picked this one out too . The ever lovely Rebecca’s Boola Boss and Take No Chances are my other 2 at Chepstow. Cheltenham October meeting only 2 weeks away.
Surely the justice result has to be Manxman in the Cesarewitch. Lost it narrowly on the day, then won it in the Stewards room, then lost it again days later on appeal.
NR Chainbar... I've had a decent e way punt on Nadawi at 22/1. 7/1 for the race last year finished last and was reported as 'didnt stay'... so why different today?... that was on soft, today will ride fast if you look at the times yesterday. Its since finished second in a County Hurdle and just won the Galway Hurdle (134k) off 145. Cant remember what they say the difference in ratings NH to Flat is, BUT it races of 89 with first time cheek pieces.
Yeah just seen he’s a NR. Crisfords must be gutted as I understand this race has been the plan for a while.
Will be cheering on Zavateri in the Dewhurst. Eve H-J’s £35k colt sinking the multi million pound operations would be great for the sport. Looks a very competitive field as it should be.
Which of the slow old plodders will be taking home the £90k for the Cesarewitch? There is a strong probability that it will be trained by someone with the surname Mullins or Elliott; and whoever the trainer is it will probably be a ‘dual code’ trainer rather than a flat trainer. There is hardly any flat form worth analysing making it, once again, an irrelevance. If they moved it to July it would cease to be a warm up race for the jumps season with the chance of a nice payday. How many of them will be happy on today’s Good to Firm ground? This race is rarely run on going that does not include the word Soft in it. There are just six in the opening Darley Stakes (1.15) with three older horses taken on by their juniors. First Conquest graduated from handicaps with a Group 3 win in Meydan and was third in the Earl Of Sefton over course and distance at the start of the season; however, he has not been seen since finishing fourth in the Rose Of Lancaster and looks vulnerable to an improving horse. Liberty Lane won last year’s Cambridgeshire before running second in this but has only won a Listed race this term and was five lengths third in the Doonside Cup three weeks ago. Outsider Mister Rizz’s best effort was when third in a Deauville Listed race and his only career win was in a three runner maiden when 2/13. Gladius is a progressive three year old, following victory in an apprentice handicap with a big handicap at Goodwood and a respectable fourth in the Group 3 Strensall Stakes at York, so he should go well here. The other two runners hail from the Gosden yard and are in the same ownership. So is it possible that the second string Torito (his only 2025 start being the Wolferton Stakes nearly four months ago) is here to assist the first string Damysus, who ducked the Arc in favour of this easier task after winning the Prix Nureyev (Mister Rizz third)? This looks like a tactical affair so I will give it a miss. The Group 3 Zetland Stakes (1.50) sees eight juveniles tackling ten furlongs for the first time and a case can be made for most of them. There are two maidens in the field and Mr Colonel has been second in a maiden and a novice event in Scotland beaten a neck on both occasions and faces perhaps a better class of opponent today. Del Maro has contested two maidens and a novice, going down by a head most recently and jockey bookings clearly indicate he is the second string. Spyce lost his maiden tag at the second attempt at Yarmouth and should go well over this extra two furlongs. Endorsement also got off the mark at the second attempt over nine furlongs in a race that has worked out very well and Wayne Lordan retains the ride while stablemate Pierre Bonnard, also a winner at the second attempt on the Dundalk kitty litter, now has the services of Christophe Soumillon. Loz Vegas ‘won’ his maiden at Sandown in the stewards’ room but was subsequently very disappointing in the conditions race won by Look To The Stars at Newbury. The Godolphin first string may look to sit behind the probably front runner Allegresse, runner up on his turf debut but subsequent winner of two Kempton novices on the kitty litter from the front under today’s pilot. Those last two are my idea of the forecast and the Balding charge would be my preference given that the Appleby runner was gelded after misbehaving a couple of times. The Autumn Stakes (2.25) looks like a note book race with none of the seven declared having run more than twice and plenty of potential. Of the available form, only Archer Royal (over five lengths third to Distant Storm in the Group 3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes), Glacius (four lengths fourth to Bow Echo in a Haydock Listed race) and Hankelow (beaten a nose in the Listed Flying Scotman Stakes) have done anything of note. If ever there were an example of how mug punters are catered for by the bookies then it is today. The betting for the Dewhurst (3.00) is dominated by horses trained by O’Brien (Coolmore) and Appleby (Godolphin) whilst the form horse would be even money or odds on if it were in either of those yards. It is an unusual Dewhurst in that none of the runners have run more than 4 times, perhaps an indication of how poorly the early season two year olds have progressed with only one survivor of Royal Ascot on show. Ballydoyle are doubly represented with Coventry winner Gstaad, subsequently beaten in the Prix Morny and the National Stakes; and Italy, second in the Superlative Stakes and the Acomb Stakes before finishing third in the National Stakes. The conquerors of both of those O’Brien horses are in this field. Godolphin have three representatives with Saba Desert, winner of the Superlative Stakes but last in the National Stakes; Pacific Avenue, beaten in the Solario Stakes and fourth in the Royal Lodge a fortnight ago; and Distant Storm, third in the Acomb Stakes but easy winner of Somerville Tattersall Stakes at the Cambridgeshire meeting. The Acomb Stakes winner Gewan failed to follow that up finishing fourth in the Champagne Stakes where Oxagon was second. The unknown quantity in the field is Alparslan, winner of both starts, most recently a big sales race at The Curragh and now stepping up a furlong. So that leaves the form horse, ZAVATERI, hailing from the unfashionable Eve Johnson Houghton yard but unbeaten winner of the July Stakes, Vintage Stakes and National Stakes (beating Gstaad, Italy and Saba Desert). He is good value to make it five and the biggest threat may prove to be Distant Storm now that he has learned to settle.
Pierre Bonnard was 7/2 yesterday with Endorsement the Fav. Christopher Soumillon was on Pierre Bonnard so you would have thought he was on the best hope for Ballydoyle. Somehow ITV mused that Endorsement was the first string. All the money came for Pierre Bonnard and he absolutely pissed up. Spyce was unable to handle the step up in class after being talked up as a Derby outsider following his win last month.
