<peacedove>Last season, we are up and running, we only bought one player.
This season, we lost two or more players, one tragically, and we we bought so many payers to upgrade.
Things are not going according to plan.
Are we under transition?. Your thoughts..............

Nah, we are just getting going.

Its slot who needs to get his head sorted as theres a lot of simple things he should get working on himself.

If you get the forward power flit and flying we can compensate for conceding lots of goals.

The difference right now is we have not scored enough to hide the teams able to walk through us.

It's an interesting question. I watched a video the other day of an amateur football analyst (can't remember the name) saying that Slot not only inherited Klopp's team but the team's mentality - mentality monsters - as they were dubbed. Meaning that not only does Slot have to replace the players, which he has done, but he has to find a way to instill that 'never give up' mentality. All the skill in the world won't help unless you have the right attitude to go with it.
I'm not saying for one minute that the new players don't have the fighting spirit but honestly, it hasn't been on show ..... so far.

So it is a transition season imo, as we move on from the original mentality monsters hoping that we can build even stronger mentality monsters.

It's almost like we're having the transition this season, that everyone was expecting last season.

I think we'll be fine. We might not win the league this season and I'm ok with that, but we'll still be competitive.. We brought in a load of players in the 20-24 years old range, we bought them for the next 4,5,6 years not just this year.

You can't spend all that and be in transition.

Were Man City in transition when they won the league and spent big? No they were expected to win it again.

Transition is about changing personnel, it's got nothing to do with how much money you may or may not spend

The thread smells badly of excuses, we won the league and spent a fortune on the back of it we're not in transition we're league champions who have spent big to win the league again and become a dominant force. Transition sounds like an excuse for if we fail.

Some commentators believe we seriously miss Trent Alexander-Arnold. If he gets injured are we not going to survive?.Trent had become part of history, we have to open another chapter.

Mate you can't lose your whole forward line and a key part of your defense and claim you're the same force that won the league.

In simple terms, transition is changing quickly from one thing/system to another which is exactly what we're doing. Just like an in-game transition that leads to a fast break and a goal, the team has changed quickly from what it was to something different with, hopefully, the change of direction leading to the same destination.

Transition doesn't have to be an excuse, like you are suggesting. It can also be a conduit to success.

I dont believe in mentality monster and klopp.

    Why?

2 absolutely stinking seasons in the great times.

Its easy talk about mentality when you are in theres with a clear target to win big.

The team.let someone equalise and then boom. They go for it and score. There's some mentality there.

What you need is senior players like milner and henderson and salah amd vvd.

Real leaders to drive the dressing room and I feel.as though tje real test of slot and Hughes is that next generation leaders.

You claim not to believe in mentality monsters then go on to talk about the leaders in the team who embody the very thing you claim not to believe in. They were/are those leaders because of their mentality. They are the mentality monsters.

Plenty of teams have seniors who don't possess that quality. It's what set us apart.

    Leaders are leaders.

    Not everyone is one.

    That's the point.

The entire 11 wont be leaders, thry can drop the head in a game. The 25 can see some slacking off in training knowing thry dont get a game.

    That's the point.

The senior players have a huge role in getting these players in line for the manager.

When youve a chiesa or an endo they can not play and might struggle in a game but they give everything.

But then youve a konate who will stop and shrug if they feel one twinge and let a goal.in.

Youve a player like gomez who will stink the place out on his chance.

Senior leaders and ensuring the group is professional is half the battle.

But you could tell at times players didn't really believe they could win something and sometimes honestly they turn up and look dross like the league cup final

Mentality is from minute 1 not from the minute they equalise or score first. You need the leaders driving it.

I believe Konate is unsettled, if he eventually leaves Liverpool it can be the greatest mistake of his life. Having said that, Liverpool's back line are currently not performing.

    Yes its true

The Madrid fans will turn fairly quick.

The amount of support he gets for doing some fairly basic strong defending here is mad.

Well there's the theory that if everybody's a leader then nobody's a leader. We have/had a good number of them. They set the example.

You could tell when players didn't really believe. Wow. That's some skill.

Having a winning mentality doesn't mean you always win and it isn't something that you turn on and off. It's there from minute one, it's not magic that somehow makes you perfect in every game. Players aren't machines.
