Kick It Out are complaining that we risk losing a generation of coaches from black, Asian, or mixed heritage backgrounds in the Premiership after the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo Maybe players from those backgrounds, and lets face it there are hundreds, if not thousands, just don't want to be Managers ?
there are a few managing in lower leagues but % wise they are small in number..... it is not always possible that that because you are a fantastic footballer nyou make it as a manager ... a completely different skill set many big names have tried and failed dismally............. not really intended as a direct comparison but as an example of what happens!......... years ago when my interest in Horse racing was aroused one of the first things I realised was a fantastical winning Flat horse rarely made good hurdlers! Some of the "stars " in the racing world were mere m"selling platers or also rans! ... following it through some of the best hurdlers were poor chasers! it is still true today........... one really good example is Rooney!
So many excellent players from my youth failed, or perhaps didn't excel as Managers. The exceptions I can think of are Jack Charlton with Ireland and Middlebrough, Alan Ball at Portsmouth and El Tel with Palace, QPR, Barcelona and England, plus of course Kenny Dalglish at Blackburn. Some of the rest, even World Cup winners like Bobby Charlton, Gordon Banks, Martin Peters and Bobby Moore all failed, as have the likes of Roy Keane, Souness, Van Nistelroy, Gazza, Solskjar, and Rooney as you've said
