I think you can say the same with any club who runs out of parachute payments. It’s why we really need to go up this year just to replenish those as much as anything. If we don’t go up this year we could quite easily be in the Champ as a mid table side for a decade (I’m sure some would like that though so silver linings)

I think a lot of the people saying about how they don't want to go up because a year of consolidation would do us good really under estimate the impact of relegation. We are fine this season because of Dibling, Fernandes and parachute payments. We won't have the player sales next season and parachute payments are reduced too.

Failing to go up this season then puts huge pressure on next season and basically creates a do or die scenario.

Agree, next season it we don’t go up we’d have, what, £50m in sales? Plus the final reduced parachute payment. How we go about it knowing that it’s **** or bust would be interesting. Maybe we play it conservatively like most teams do in the final year of parachute payments and not go for it as you can’t compete with the relegated PL sides or Ipswich (if they don’t go up). Leicester will be in the same boat as they will be in their last year of parachute payments if they don’t go up

I thought we only got 1 year of parachute payments as we were PL for one season?

I think we get 2 as we only just came up?

My understanding (could definitely be wrong) is if you go straight back up in your first year of the 3 year parachute payments, and come straight back down (like us and Leicester) then you only get 2 years on your return to the Champ, and it’s the second and third installment of what you would’ve had if you didn’t go up (so less than the first year payment). Both us and Leicester are receiving year 2 parachute payments, where as Ipswich are in year 1

If you don’t go up first year then go up second I think you get 3 years again if you come straight down (so Leeds would get 3 years worth if they are relegated this year).

Not sure what happens if we go up this year and then come straight down again, if the above is correct then assume we would just get 3 years worth again

Might be completely wrong on how it works though
