I'd expect that with the characters that we have in the squad (Xhaka, Mukiele, Ballard, 09) along with RLB and his backroom team, they will be making it very clear to Reinildo that his stupidity has cost us points in his absence and as the experienced player that he is that is simply not acceptable. It's worse still when the defensive side of Masuaku's game has been so poor to date.
Not to sure tbh, do we want players fully committed? Or do we want players shirking tackles? Im almost 100 percent certain that you wont get a slagging from xhaka for going all in!!! It was a late takle but was just in frustration to me and not a red at all. If the prick hadent rolled around it would have been a yellow at most imo.
What was said in player huddle against Manchester United https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/25518261.said-sunderlands-player-huddle-manchester-united/ (Sunderland's players huddled on the Old Trafford pitch after Benjamin Sesko scored Manchester United's second goal) TRAI Hume says Sunderland need to "stick together and be positive" after suffering just their second Premier League defeat of the season. Unity was also the key message when Sunderland's players huddled together on the Old Trafford pitch after conceding the second goal in Saturday's 2-0 loss. "We were saying to each other that it’s not good enough, we’ve got to stick together get into half-time and fix things," revealed Hume. "We knew we started slowly. And we knew we had to stick together. After that we did it." “First half we started slowly and they started quickly and you’re always going to get punished for that. It’s just as simple as that, they punished us with two goals. We came in half-time and we were disappointed. We knew we didn’t start well. After that I thought the game was fairly even and if we had started that way it might have been different. But that’s on us. We know that. We need to improve and learn from it. “We know as a team and as a staff that we weren’t good enough in the first half. In the second half we created a few chances. We didn’t take them but if you don’t start well enough you have to learn from it." The game would have changed had Manchester United gone down to 10 men when Bertrand Traore went down on the edge of the box under the challenge of Senne Lammens and Bruno Fernandes, but referee Stuart Attwell instead booked the Sunderland forward for diving. Hume said: “I don’t see a reason why he’d go down if there wasn’t contact but I haven’t seen it back. He’s going through on goal, I don’t know why he’d go down." Despite the defeat, Sunderland still go into the second international break of the season in a strong position with 11 points on the board. “The start to the season has been good. We’re disappointed today that we’ve lost but overall we’ve done well. At home we’ve won games and we’ve drawn and even away we’ve got a draw and a win at tough places. We lost this one but we had a slow start and they’re 2-0 up at half time. We need to stick together and be positive."
To me that wasn’t a question of Reinildo being fully committed, it was a petulant response to a foul by Cash. Agree that Cash went on like a prick. We would have beaten Villa that day with 11 men throughout, I also think we’d have got something at United on Saturday if Reinildo had been playing. His quality isn’t in question, he’s also an experienced lad who shouldn’t be getting sent off for nonsense like the Cash incident.
The PL is a ‘dirty place’ and riddled with diving, cheating players who’ll push officials to the limit and ‘buy’ fouls, penalties and football matches … … sadly we need to adapt to that and ‘play the game’. Shame but we have to realistic, not romantic.
The incedent of the high foot should have been an indirect free kick to us because of dangerous play, a great chance to score cos no Man U player could stand on the line due to it been so near, but VAR and refs are starting to go against us, these who fall over for nowt get on my nerves
100%. It was really poor by Reinaldo. Deserved red. And I agree it has cost us since. That said I think Regis picked a combo in Masuaka and Adringa that was problematic. He learned that the hard way. Incidents like this shine a light on the squad. We cant build a full squad in a summer. It is a shame Cirkin isnt available as I am sure he would be ahead of Masuaka if Adringa is to play. It will take us another year maybe to feel really confident in all replacements. It is why old heads like Reinaldo need to stay calm and stay on the pitch.
Yep agree with you about Cirkin being ahead of Masuaku, but not by much, Cirkin has had a lot of injury problems over the last 12 months in particular and hasn't kicked on to the level I hoped he would. For me that is one of the key areas we need to strengthen. Speaking to West Ham fans that I work with, they were completely unsurprised at my complaints about Masuaku's defensive qualities for us to date, apparently he was very poor when they used him at LB, more effective going forward. Reinildo certainly has the quality and commitment, it needs to channelled in the right way, he shouldn't need telling about that but if he does we've got some prime candidates to do so with our captain being first on the list to take him to one side. We've had a very solid start, which would have been even better but for Reinildo's actions that day against Villa. Get the international break and the Wolves game out of the way and hopefully he's champing at the bit for Chelsea with the controlled aggression that he normally brings.
