ah, caught up now. Flags are symbols and powerful ones, but they mean different things to different people. There's nothing wrong with patriotism and national pride. But Nationalism is divisive and intimidating. Personally I don't think it is helpful that politicians of every stripe (bar the far left) have taken to embracing the Union Flag, sending the implicit message that they are more patriotic than their party political rivals. And the growing impression I get is that the new yardstick of patriotism is how many migrants you promise to deport. Seems pretty clear to me that it is the Nationalist tune of Reform UK that Labour and the Conservatives are now dancing to. Some of the many flags which have appeared recently are being used for Nationalist, not Patriotic, purposes. Gary Neville apparently believes this, and I'm afraid I have to agree with him. It is not 'unpatriotic' to call out Nationalist aggression.
