Not like for like - most of aaronson’s appearances have been as a 10. Aaronson is a better presser and does more off the ball work. Gnonto is better with it. For the record I think both have done reasonably well this season. It’s easy to blame the wide men for not delivering but if you’re keeping it tight with 3 midfielders they don’t always get great service. FWIW I think Emu’s boy Okafor has looked promising and earnt the starting place on the left for now. Gnonto can play both sides so it may be that both now are in competition.
Sometimes there can be no logical reason for liking or disliking a player. Every factual piece of evidence says I'm an idiot for liking Mes as a goalie and every time someone pointed out any of his many faults, I'd be in full agreement, but I just can't help liking him. Aaronson to me, is the weakest player in the squad. Whilst I understand his high work rate, for me he's not someone who gets the blood rushing when on the ball, which is maybe fine as a central midfielder, but not as a forward line player. I quite like Gnonto, unfortunately I feel he's better suited to playing on the left than the right, but for the last 3 seasons, there has always been someone ahead of him in that position, so he's had to fit in to positions where we don't see him at his best.
For these reasons I cannot understand why we didn’t sell Mes, Gnonto, Piroe and Aaronson, never mind Harrison who is used on the left. We know about Mes but in honesty the others are not guaranteed starts (Aaronson maybe) so are second string bench players.. even Dan James could be the same yet he was given a new contract and pay rise. We lack cutting edge up top and it could be our downfall
We need a squad though Doc. Not everyone can be a starter. We have to find a club who’d take them and then replace them with better for the same money. Aaronson and Harrison also have great attitudes/work ethic. Sometimes it’s better the devil you know. We clearly did try to flog Mes, but he made it difficult with his wages and performances. Gnonto we believe has a huge sell on % which is likely a factor. Piroe is the one who looks most obvious… but we signed two injury prone strikers so need cover and he offers something a little different. He’s a funny player I’m genuinely not sure what he’s worth tbh. He got some stick but Farke played piroe and tanaka how I thought made most sense yesterday. Brought on when the game has slowed down a bit and we’re chasing a result. I agree with some comments that we needed to put more balls into the box late on on Saturday… but that aside I thought the idea was sound and it nearly worked.
Piroe valued at €18.5m minimum so £16.5m. Factor that in to the saving of £18m we paid for Okafor that would have given us £35m for a top forward. Yes Okafor could become a dream signing but for me when you get offered Solomon on loan it’s a no brainer
