....how would the club handle it ?

To be clear, I'm not saying I think we will (or won't) go down and this isn't intended as a thread to discuss the likelihood of relegation, it's just hypothetical and the club will have plans in place so I'm just wondering what people think that would look like.

I think we'll be fine regardless as we are now a smart, well run club, but with us taking such huge strides to look like a Premier League outfit across the board how could that be dealt with if dropping a league?

The playing side is relatively straight forward I would say, there would be another massive turnover of players as I couldn't see many (any?) of our summer signings staying, and even the likes of Ballard, Rigg, Isidor, Mayenda and Hume would be likely to fancy a return to a second tier having had a taste of the top flight. It will all be comfortably financed by parachute payments and the massive fees a lot of our squad would attract.

We're hugely upgrading our coaching and performance side of things both in terms of numbers and quality/calibre. Would that sort of structure be sustainable at Championship level? Would any of the higher profile recruits stick around? They all come with great pedigree and CVs so would they want to move on or would they see it as just a year to get out of the way with an 'inevitable' return to the big time at the end of it?

Off the pitch on the commercial side would we continue to try and court the same corporate following where the interest will be hugely diminished or would we look to repackage our offerings to attract a kind of midway 'customer'?

Anyone have any thoughts about what the club's contingencies would look like and how easily achievable they would be?

I think you've covered everything and believe the club will just continue to improve in every way.

    We won't.

Any conjecture is pointless until such time as we are skirting the drain rather than languishing in the top half of the table.

There's a January Transfer Window thread you best jump on too to shut down the discussion

It's nothing to do with the defeat - that's why I went to the lengths I did to explain and caveat it all in the OP.

Nothing to stop you conjecturing ...

... nothing to stop other people choosing to ignore it.

Relegation and the January window and two entirely different situations.

I was speaking generally but I'll leave you to it ...

... I made my feelings clear in my first post, no need to expand further.

Ha! :) Are you saying I'm lying?

I have alluded to it a few times even after we've won, particularly in relation to the expansion of the coaching team. I've not done a thread before because I've not been sat with nowt better to do for a good while.

I find it in no way coincidental that a post like this appears after our first doing of the season.

I know, I've no issue with that, I was responding to a post specifically saying that he ignored it (since clarified).

Just trying to stoke a little discussion since this board is so dead in between transfer windows. Clearly not the topic to achieve it though.

The club have undoubtedly improved our chances of staying up with what they’ve done. However, they’ve also make a bit of a cliff edge if we do fall short. The upheaval would be massive. Much of our structures as well as our playing squad would likely be unsustainable at the lower level. The interesting thing is that we’ve probably fast forwarded our development in many ways. Obviously on the positive side - and that may well mean that relegation ends up being something we don’t need to worry about this season. However we’ve probably already put ourselves in a position where we’d have to approach relegation like an ‘established’ side. From season one, a relegation would hurt.

The question then for me (if I dare) would be what happens then assuming we would go back up at the first time of asking? Assuming, say, Ghisolfi has gone, do we look to bring in another top DoF, do we look to bring in the equivalent of what's been lost on the coaching side? Or do we look to maintain more consistency between the Champ and Prem that time around (you'd assume we'd be better placed to do so). I find it really interesting because of how the club has tackled this season, I'm confident the club will have contingencies in place but it's harder to guess what they are because we've gone in so deep.

Then why bother with what contingencies they have in place. Just have confidence in the club, as they have done fine over the last 5 years.

The answer to your question is at the start of the sentence you quoted.

Speakman said at the talk in that they know what they're doing. I trust they have contingency plans in place should the worst happen.
