I think we need to accept we’re unlikely to go up this season. And do we really want to after the **** we were served up last year? I think we’re set for being a good championship side until something in the clubs hierarchy changes (ie sale). We’ve all been crying out for a striker for years, they buy downs and rely on Stewart Armstrong and archer. It was obvious that Stewart wouldn’t be able to play more than 3 games without going off. He’s been injured for 3 years FFS.
Please correct me if I am wrong. Will Still likes to play a direct attack with a hold up player as his first "Go to" choice? Today after Stewart went off injured we lost all momentum and looked poor? But didn't we have a hold up player already in the very tall shape of Paul Onuachu last season that could have come on as sub? I know he wasn't the best quality but so far he's banged in 5 goals in 7 appearances for Trabzonspor in the Turkish league, could it be argued that Downs is an inferior striker to the one we were desperate to get rid of? We all knew that we were lacking in the striker department but SR decided to hang their colours onto the mast of a very inexperienced striker who's (putting it mildly) is struggling to find his feet, wasn't this a clear example of SR willingness to gamble? And talking about gambling isn't Will Still dividing the opinion of the Saints fans? A guy with limited success and zero experience in England? As always just Saying
You all need to move down to NZ. One, it's a beautiful country, and Two. Most of Saints games kick off, far to early for me to get up and watch. I just look at the result, feel disappointed, but get on with my day. It's a lot healthier for me that way.
I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this sense of entitlement from some Saints fans in this league, it's no better than the fans of big six in the PL that we hate.
Same here. Agreed 100%. Just cos we've dropped down a league doesn't give us a divine right to expect to beat/smash a perceived smaller club.
And once again "tiny Southampton" syndrome strikes not606. Ffs its Derby county. Yes we should be beating them, yes we should be annoyed we're not. Look at the money which has been spent (albeit on total ****e) against the rest of the league. Where are we? 2 wins in 9 and in 16th place. Why the apathy?
I think you can be both. It's kind of where I am. I'm pissed off with our start. I didn't expect promotion, but I did think we'd start better than this I think. But I also don't go into a game expecting to beat or smash someone, just because they haven't spent the money we have.
We are a big fish in the Championship. As fans, we should be expecting wins most week. Of course we have to earn them but there's nothing entitled about expecting the team to win against the likes of Derby.
Gut feeling is that the wins will come. That was a great game of football by any measure, just lacking in some quality finishing or saved by some great keeping depending on you point of view. I like how we play football. It’s better than last fecking year!
To be honest I couldn’t hear the away fans at all after about 15 minutes. I expect more of our supporters.
I don't know what some people were expecting either today or yesterday. We were never doing to be in a promotion campaign. I think that Will Still will prove to be a brilliant coach but I feel he will need to develop thus new squad. The results in the last few matche have improved for a reason which was the squad was demoralised and needed a revamp. The only criticism I have is the forward line. If we believe in Downs , loan him to 1st or 2nd division team to get some experience. I do think there will be further changes in January.
I thought we'd be doing better, but also recognise that it's a big job integrating a whole new load of players for a young manager finding his own way in the league too. Yes we should probably be on more points now, but there's enough quality there and enough to suggest that once he finds/stumbles on the right chemistry, we'll be fine.
Yeah, that's where I'm at. Especially when you consider last season as well. That **** ain't easy to recover from.
