We needed that win. Seemed a bit more experience in the side tonight. Still a bit young but much better.
Burnley U21 0-3 Sunderland U21 Sunderland Under-21 claimed their first Premier League 2 win of the season, as three first-half goals secured a 3-0 win over Burnley on Friday night. Harrison Jones’ 11th-minute strike and a brace from Timur Tutierov, both of whom were brought back into the side, helped Graeme Murty’s side to their first three points of their 2025-26 PL2 season. The Lads started brightly, as Harrison Jones’ effort from a one-on-one was parried away by Oisin Cooney, before Ethan Moore’s teasing low cross evaded Finn Geragusian, who made his first U21 start of the season. Murty’s side continued to dominate and found their reward within 11 minutes. After a sweeping diagonal by Tutierov, Moore’s cut-back was dummied by Geragusian, before H.Jones fired an effort into the top left corner. Only 13 minutes later, our advantage was doubled. Jenson Jones’ long ball forward found Tutierov, who galloped his way to the edge of the Burnley penalty area, before slotting a finish under Cooney. Tutierov added a stunning third just before half time, as the Ukrainian whipped an effort beyond the Burnley ‘keeper and into the top right corner. In the second half, Jack Whittaker saw two attempts to extend the Lads’ lead denied at close range by Cooney, before H.Jones’ powerful low cross was inches away from Geragusian adding a fourth. Late on, Ben Middlemas’ volley from the edge of the area was beaten away by the ‘keeper, before Finlay Holcroft led what almost proved to be a devastating counter-attack, but his long-range effort was punched away by Cooney. Murty’s side return to league action next Saturday, as they travel to Aston Villa in Premier League 2 (3pm kick-off). Sunderland U21: Allan, Jenson Jones (Neild 70’), Holcroft, Kindon, Lightfoot, Burke (Jaydon Jones 70’), Harrison Jones, Middlemas, Moore (Scott 70’), Geragusian, Tutierov (Whittaker 45’) Subs not used: Metcalf Latest news...

From the little I have seen of him Clocky, Tutierov looks like he will be a decent player in future. Have you seen much of him?

Sunderland Under-21s mounted a second-half comeback to earn a point in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday. First-half strikes from Rory Wilson and Mohamed Kone put Villa into a two-goal lead, before Tutierov, who missed a penalty less than five minutes previous, had a header deflected past the Villa ‘keeper. Bradley Burrowes added a third for the hosts, but Finn Geragusian halved the deficit and then missed a spot-kick, before Ben Middlemas’ equaliser completed the comeback. Graeme Murty made two changes from last Friday’s 3-0 win over Burnley, as Joe Anderson and Jack Whittaker replaced Archie Lightfoot and Harrison Jones. The Lads pressed aggressively in the opening stages and almost found an opener, when Ben Middlemas’ close-range effort was denied by Aimuamwonsa Asemota, before Ethan Moore couldn’t hook the rebound beyond the Villa ‘keeper. However, the hosts took the lead after ten minutes, when Wilson tucked the ball under Isaac Allan and into the bottom left corner. Murty’s side came close to a leveller, as Jenson Jones found Tutierov in space on the left wing, but the winger couldn’t bend the ball into the top right corner. Villa added a second with 34 minutes on the clock, when Kone dispossessed a defensive pass from Allan and slid the ball into the bottom corner. The Lads were given an ideal opportunity to half the deficit just after the interval, but Tutierov couldn’t convert from 12 yards, after Geragusian was fouled inside of the area. Our pressure was mounting, as the Ukrainian saw an effort parried away by the Villa ‘keeper, before Middlemas’ follow-up was somehow tipped over the bar. The pressure told in the 57th minute, as Tutierov’s header from a Middlemas corner was deflected off Wilson and past Asemota. However, less than a minute later, Villa extended their lead, when Burrowes’ thumping effort beat Allan. In a frantic spell, the Lads continued to probe and scored their second in stunning fashion. Finlay Holcroft’s cross was met by an exquisite flick from Geragusian, which Asemota couldn’t keep out. The striker’s spot-kick, only five minutes later, was beaten away by Asemota, before Middlemas latched onto a loose clearance by the ‘keeper to loop an effort into the bottom corner. Jenson Jones saw a late effort from the edge of the box denied by the ‘keeper, before Whittaker’s close-range shot was blocked by a duo of Villa bodies. Our U21s return to home soil next Friday, as they face Norwich City in the PL Cup at Eppleton (7pm kick-off). Sunderland U21: Allan, Holcroft, Kindon, Anderson, Jenson Jones, Burke (Jaydon Jones 81‘), Middlemas, Whittaker, Moore (Lightfoot 81’), Tutierov (Scott 67’), Geragusian Subs not used: Cowan
