(NewsNation) — Comedian and television host Bill Maher, known for his acerbic wit, is calling out the media for its silence on the ongoing persecution of Christians in Nigeria. “If you don’t know what’s going on in Nigeria, your media sources suck. You are in a bubble. And, again, I’m not a Christian, but they are systematically killing the Christians in Nigeria,” Maher said on his show “Real Time with Bill Maher” on September 27. “They’ve killed over 100,000 since 2009. They’ve burned 18,000 churches,” Maher said. “This is so much more of a genocide attempt than what is going on in Gaza. They are literally attempting to wipe out the Christian population of an entire country. Where are the kids protesting this?” Turning Point USA resumes Charlie Kirk’s college campus tour Maher famously hosted the show “Politically Incorrect” and has said he is not beholden to any party or ideology. He often provides scathing sociopolitical commentary on his television show and podcast. Nigeria is the world’s deadliest for Christians: experts Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country and its largest economy. It’s also the world’s deadliest for Christians, according to experts. In recent years, more Christians have been killed in Nigeria than in all other places combined, according to Open Doors, a non-denominational mission supporting persecuted Christians around the world. This year is proving no different. Radical Muslims killed more than 7,000 Christians in the first seven months of 2025, according to the International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law, a Nigeria-based watchdog group. An additional 7,800 were kidnapped during the same period. Statistically, that is about 30 Christians being killed and 35 being kidnapped every day. Charlie Kirk wanted his legacy to be his faith. What did he believe? In June, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom urged the U.S. Department of State to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern. “Further efforts are needed to reduce violence and preserve freedom of religion or belief for all Nigerians,” said Commissioner Mohamed Elsanousi. “The U.S. government should use foreign assistance to address conflict resolution and enhance security sector training so vulnerable religious communities can be better protected.” Pastors apologize for false rapture prediction According to the CIA Factbook, Christians make up 46% of the population, while Nigeria is about 53% Muslim. Historically, the violence mostly occurred in northern Nigeria, which is majority Muslim. But now Islamic militants, including Boko Haram, Fulani fighters and Islamic State West Africa Province, target Christians in the middle of the country and the south, according to Open Doors. The failure of Nigeria’s government to protect Christians has only strengthened the militants’ influence, the group says. Categories: Religion NewsNation Back to top
Synagogue terror attack in Manchester, oh what a surprise. Only real surprise is it's taken this long to happen. The levels of anti semitism in this country are off the scale but little is done about it...
I don’t have the energy today to get into it too much though I’ve got a lot to say about it and this article gives a brief but good overview https://archive.is/Dy7xv Every Jewish person in this country knew this was going to happen somewhere sooner rather than later. It’s happening more elsewhere. For it to happen today is in some ways unsurprising but particularly sad. The Jewish community has been terribly let down by the government at a national and more local level despite numerous warnings this was going to happen and at least one similar incident narrowly averted I know of. Nothing will be done because nothing ever is bar a copy and paste tweet from those who have either let it happen or encouraged it to happen and now feign shock.
Very saddened to hear of any deaths caused from people’s hatred of any culture, religion or political views; also sorry your special day has been marked by this horror. As Sooperhoop says the level of anti-semitism feels endemic right now. Sadly, if someone has zero morals other than to murder, maim or cause fear amongst any group of people it’s impossible to stop it happening. That people feel so crazed to carry out such horrors is the thing that makes a small part of our society so sick and very sad for everyone else to live with and perhaps fear.
Thanks. Not really a special day for me as I went to the football the night before and did none of the things a nice Jewish boy is meant to do on the holiest night/day of the year. One of the few arguments I had with my mum growing up was over going to QPR on the Jewish new year which turned out to be a good decision as we beat Leicester 3-2 from 2-0 down. But as far as I know the people I know in that part of Manchester either weren’t there at the time or are ok which is the main thing. I’m at a wedding at the weekend where half the crowd will be Mancs so expect quite a few will have been there. But back to the point, I don’t think this element in this country can be de-radicalised. They can be monitored if known (this guy wasn’t, and we can’t know how many aren’t) but the simple fact is there is a minority of Muslims brought up to despise Jews and often The West. I don’t doubt the perfectly normal majority of Muslims detest them for the impact they have on their own lives. There’s also a growing minority of radical, West-hating non-religious people but they’re mostly less serious and while there’s an antisemitism problem in that group it’s not one that would go to the lengths seen yesterday. I woke up angry at those who have let this happen and have either stood by when they could have helped or actively encouraged antisemitism to fester. Bonus points for those of them with their copy and paste faux-outrage tweets. I doubt it’ll be too long before someone tries something similar whether it be a synagogue, school, hospital or whatever. The police reacted admirably and have stopped similar happening entirely in the recent past but you only need 1 in 100 to slip through the net.
With regard to monitoring, a man named Jihad should surely have been picked up by whatever algorithm the Security Services use and been investigated, even just to get his background. There can't be too many with that name...
Difficult one. My friend, Kampf Killeveryone is a fine man. Assuming he was born with it he can’t be blamed for his own name.
