It was a great night Steels. Even Mrs SW was impressed (she wasn’t sure going in). Turbines/Pigs was absolutely incredible. It’s 6 amazing instrumentalists being 9 instrumentalists as the girls add their voices to the show. As you said, the crowd was almost silent. The performance just draws you into their presence. Heard someone on the way out, who had clearly seen them before, say how much more polished their performance was now. They certainly were classy. Wasn’t quite so sure about the support, their style was a bit too random for me (and the difference in quality of the voices against BCNR was like chalk and cheese) but entertaining.
Tonights entertainment - off to the Barrowlands again for the return of The Beta Band. Played their first gig in 21 years last night at the same venue, looked great https://youtube.com/shorts/dqhlzeNUFlU?si=H0hEw9FWm4qP3oAh Used to listen to them, along with a bit of Spiritualised after a night out at the clubs or raving, nice bit of trip-hop psychedelic folk! Great for the come down Even John Cusack knew how good they were
Great show. Took Steve Mason a couple of tracks to get his voice going. All brilliant unstrumentalists, lost count of how many times they all swapped around, drums, keyboards, guitars, trumpets, bongos and more. Some absolute bampots in the crowd, off their tits on eccies or acid One question though, why do people spend £40 on a ticket to see a band that hasn't played in 20 years, then spend the whole gig chatting to their pals - very annoying....
On the constant chatting at gigs … with you completely Steels. Nothing worse than recently a couple of women going on about their private lives while the gig is going on - take it outside ffs. You wonder if they’re there for a social and have stumbled on a gig!!
That song gave Radiohead a band name taken from a movie I made a load of mates go and watch, they all hated the movie and thought I must be deranged for liking it I must watch it again and see for myself
Been looking at accomodation, it's extortionate as the Edinburgh Festival is on at the same time so if we do go I'll be driving - about 90 minutes to get there for me
softies most big bands dont come to wellington if its something we want to go to then its 7 hr 29 min driving on a good day 402.2 miles mind you we take our time driving up and make a trip of it for a few days
It's a **** place for a venue, out at Edinburgh Airport. So if you want trains, you've got to go back in to Edinburgh to get on the mainline back to Glasgow Queen Street. Then I'd have to walk across town to Central Station and get another line out to where we live! I've seen all these bands a few times except Just Mustard (who are quite good too). Hearing The Cure will be announcing an arena tour for their 50th anniversary so may wait for that instead - already have Mogwai tickets for next year!
