Filming yourself with faux rage and passion. If you were THAT into the game, the last thing you'd think of was to switch your camera around and film your reaction. Bell end

Great post. Smith was an appalling reptile, and when he was jailed it wasn't for long enough.

I hope he and Poulson, who were both as corrupt as hell, are suffering in the hell they must be in.

Yes. The whole hype has created a fragile and insular metality in many in the Newcastle area, particularly the football fans, many of whom are borderline disturbed.

But football gets a lot of publicity, way more than it should really. And this has had the effect of making people around the country at best laugh at them, and more commonly deride them. They really are not liked at all now and I always make when I'm elsewhere that people know I'm from Durham.

Right. This is the way I experienced it too. I always preferred Wearsider to Mackem (or Mackum when i first saw it), but it got to the point where we needed a common label to differentiate us from that lot. Agree this is sad and John Hall et al have some much to blame. I'd heard of T Dan Smith but didn't know much about him before your post.

The mag thing that made me smile the most was the 'forever in our shadow' thing. They really did and do seem to think they are better than us - and, bizarrely, as a 'people', not just as a football thing. I've always thought it was really the other way around. There are always exceptions, but people in Sunderland always struck me as more reasonable and realistic, not trying to 'one up on you' all the time and trying to prove they are better when its quite obvious that they're not. I know banter can be fun, but mags are a special breed and I tend just to leave them alone as much as I can.

That's routine for him. He gets away with that stuff every week. No idea how, he's probably the dirtiest player in that league.

That's true. And that kind of behaviour always, always comes from an inferiority complex.

Aye but 92er Durham Mags call themselves "Southern Geordies" now and are even worse than someone from Warlsend who has probably never been South of the Tyne, so has an excuse to be ignorant about Wearside. The 92er Durham Mag is from Wearside, speaks with an accent far more Wear than Tyne and professes to hate Sunderland and Wearside, even though they are from Wearside. <laugh>

Good post and I believe the local media have contributed greatly to their delusions

Totally. The local media is predominantly based in Newcastle, through a combination of luck and geography for TV and radio. Tyne Tees studio at City Road was mainly due to it being a large warehouse near the telephone exchange because television signals to and from other ITV stations were relayed by land-line from the studios to the switching centre. The cost would have significantly increased if the connection was over a mile. It was good fortune that the site was available, if it wasn't Tyne Tees might have been based elsewhere, say Gateshead. The old BBC studios were similar in New Bridge Street. Both BBC and Tyne Tees, especially now, are twee and basically pliant to outside influences, including from people like Smith and Hall, just remember the clusterfuck Newcastle made of the Great North Exhibition in 2019, pushed extensively by local TV and radio, but barely mentioned after it flopped. And that's just one, small example. Then add in fat Dawn and her obvious bias reporting.

When you have people like Anal Lover, John Gibson, Neil Farrington and their obvious pro NUFC bias writing in local newspapers and the clear relish they take in knocking us, often with lies or backhanded compliments, any congratulations being given through gritted teeth, it's easy to see how it's contributed to the current state of things.

He might be right! Not a bad player, but seems like mental, panicky money. .

Mind, did Rumminigge and his mate Hoeness not both do time for some sort of money offences?

    Queer mob that lot.

Luckily for me then, the last time I watched any of that garbage was a very long time ago.

I can say this though. Some years ago, I was all over the place. I would often see other regions versions of these two programmes. The two up here were in my opinion, wildly inferior to the others I saw.

    Sounds like they still are.

This lad is a bit thick. Slagging us off for “coming back after we snuck back into the prem through the back door”, and I pointed out that they got 10k free season tickets!
