    Match Preview;
    So far this season, Oxford United have won one, drawn two and lost four. They sit 22nd, on 5 points, so 2 points above bottom of the table Sheffield United. Their manager, Gary Rowett, took the helm at the Kassam Stadium in December 2024, and has won 11, drawn 10 and lost 14 of his 35 games in charge so far. That record was enough to see them finish 17th last year, on 53 points. With the addition of seven new players over the summer, Rowett will be hoping his squad is stronger and will be aiming for a solid mid-table finish this year. They have a good balance in the squad with some younger players alongside more experience in the likes of Matty Phillips (better add him to the list above).

    As for us, a draw on Saturday put an end to our winning run, but we have still picked up 10 points from 4 games, so not a bad return. That run has moved us up to 9th, within a point of the playoffs. Our free flowing attacking football didn't quite bear fruit against Sheffield Wednesday, and they did a good job of getting men behind the ball and stopping us, but I still feel we are a threat going forward, and need to push forward from the go in games like this, and go for goals. I'm also hoping Karamoko Dembélé will get a start, as he has about the best motivation possible. His older brother by seven years, Ben Siriki Dembélé, plays for Oxford United, and I know from experience the satisfaction of outclassing one's brother on the football field.

    Team news and manager comments to go up when on the official, enjoy if you are making it to HQ on Wednesday night, and as always...

    ...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!

    Ah my bi-annual opportunity to think about Stefan Bailey.

    David Bardsley scoring 7 goals for Oxford? One of our finest RB, but was he playing in a different position for Oxford?

    The home fixture last season was the worst game of professional football, apart from England v Ireland in the 1990 World Cup, that I have ever witnessed in the flesh.

    Cheers Dave. Can we have Jim Smith as managed both?

    It was absolutely awful! Especially the first half. Can't remember much about the rest of the game, did Sam Field score twice? 2-0?

    My two worst games witnessed in the flesh were QPR v Oxford in the 1986 Milk Cup Final, and England v Bulgaria at Wembley in a Euro qualification match on October 10th 1998. I don't think we had a shot on target. It finished 0-0 and when I got home I said to my wife 'I think that was the worst game I had ever seen. ' She then told me that my dad had died that afternoon. Rather bizarrely I remember staring at the scoreboard ( it was the old Wembley ) and the time was 4:42. I was staring at it for about 30 seconds. That was the time my dad's time of death was recorded.
