The point of it was because defenders (John Terry a classic) deliberately made themselves big using their arms to block shots and crosses and would look all innocent as they “accidentally “ handled the ball hence the new rule where they judge if the arm is in a natural position or not.

Fabian Schar last season v Southampton springs to mind when everyone was saying the sending off was correct despite no contact made

We all remember incidents which haven’t been dealt with by the referee in terms of cards being dealt with by the authorities after the game. Why is that not happening for this assault?

Because it would not benefit Arsenal

When people slide (like Gabriel) their arms up come.

When you jump - your arms again are used to create momentum - even sprinting requires arm motion. Its "unnatural" to do anything athletic with your arms stuck to your sides.

The Law has been there for many seasons now
it was first introduce to stop the likes of John Terry sliding in and collecting the ball as he slid in
    as he so often did
the law has been finely tuned ever since

The judgement of natural position is taken on an incident by incident basis and everyone won’t always agree with the judgment but it does overall cutout the John Terry style of defending.

I remember one game when John Terry slid about 10 yards with ball nicely tucked under his forearm

Arsenal should have had a penalty imo. Pope got lucky with the slightest of flick. But he wiped him completely out. If that was against us I want a penalty all day long.

The incident on Woltemade. The punch. Yes I think VAR should have looked at that and a red card shown.

The hand ball. It took the slightest of deflections of Gabriel’s foot but that’s not enough in my mind not to give the penalty. As such should have been one.

They could say they got shafted once. We got shafted twice.

Is everyone still bleating on about this defeat? We didn't win and we move on guys.

October looks like an opportunity to turn this around.

Football forum. Discuss whatever points you wish to discuss. Seems a more reasonable and realistic approach. Wouldn't you agree?

Unless you don't like them though let's not forget that.

Interesting take on the Arsenal penalty claim on match of the day by Joe Hart. Showed that Pope got a touch on the ball before contact, the touch was enough to deflect the ball and apparently because Pope had planted his foot before the very slight contact it couldn’t be a foul. Interesting, don’t shoot the messenger though, it was new to me.

I see that. I still personally think that it should have been a penalty to them.

Pope didn’t actually initiate the contact. It just so happened to brush his toe.

It’s a bit like the Gabriel penalty incident. The ball touched his foot first before hitting his hand. But his hand was clearly in an unnatural position.

    Both should have been penalties.

Gabriel should have been sent off. If he had. The penalty claim wouldn’t have happened.

He didn't initiate kicking the ball? Who the hell did?

Pope got his foot in line to make contact with the ball. That’s not a foul

With the ball. He wiped out the player and just so luckily clipped the ball with his toenail.

    Stonewall penalty for me.

The contact with the ball came first. No foul

I disagree. But well you know it’s a forum.

If VAR had not got involved we would have not said much. It’s only the very slow motion replays that seen the minor clip.

But hey let’s not let our personal bias get in the way.
